Re: 1971 16' ss

What is "Coat It" I havent heard of it until now?

Good thinking :D

"Coat it" is another brands version of "Gluvit". I was able to get it locally and many of the local drift boat guys prefer it to Gluvit to coat the bottom of their boats.

The back piece of flooring can be riveted down tomorrow (yeah...first piece). I spent a while cutting up noodles and pink hardboard foam tonight.

Working without a template on the floor piece is a big pain. I must've taken that piece in and out of the boat at least 10-15 times.

In the event that anyone thinks they are going to score a new cool tool from HF...don't. I purchased the new 5" Double Cut Saw Item # 68316 , thinking it would make cutting the .125" aluminum tread plate quicker, easier, and have a better edge than my other tools. So we broke down and picked one up. The VERY first cut the "twin" counter rotating blades separated...making two individual cuts. (thus defeating it's purpose) It thankfully was before I got into the actual piece that needed to be cut. Needless to say it's going to be returned.

After trying several other methods of cutting it, with mixed outcomes...it was back to the trusty 4.5" grinder for cutting out all of that.

I have a dual twin counter rotating saw from Sears. bought it on a whim and if used prorerly it (next to my saws all ) is the best tool I have purchased in a long time. Your boat is looking fantastic. Lots pf pride and passion there to show for the labor. The saw?? can the blade seperate if they are secure with the mounting bolt?? Good luch on project . The mounting bolt was as tight as it could get. Basically the blades were flexing, causing them to separate. The arbor/center bolt isn't large enough, or it's just crappy workmanship. (or cheap pot metal blades, wrong blade profile, etc)

All of this floor stuff wouldn't take nearly as long if I had a template to work from. My template boards wound up with someone I had a falling out with. (person currently resides in jail now...thus ruining my access to potentially get them back anyway)

Overview of the bow piece

I know it's only going to bug me, but it's off 1/2" on each side. (I'll backfill it with something so most won't notice it)

Bow brace is almost finished. I have to bend down the flanges on top and bottom still, but decided to test fit it anyway. Factory brace was .065 and I used .080 since I'll be walking on it so much.

The anchor ball wanted to show that it indeed does fit below deck. :D

Bow brace is done. I have to cut in the lids for the openings in the deck, so I haven't riveted anything down yet.

It looked so good with the whole floor in there...I just wanted to rivet it all down and be done. Gas tank isn't back yet though...so it couldn't happen.

Took the chance of having the boat out of the shop, to paint all the floors. Friday everything will go back in the boat for good.

You can see in the middle of the pic that the bow piece has the cut outs for the hatch openings. The main center one will have a bi-fold door, so it doesn't pinch the anchor rope when it comes out of it. (opening is 20x20 and the smaller side compartments are 14x10)

Here's a closeup of the Rusto Silver Hammered with the Rusto Anti-Slip additive. The glare was too much outside in the sun with the high polish tread plate. (although it looked super cool)

Should have everything ready JUST in time for the Memorial Day splash date.

All the wiring will be complete for when I get the boat back to install everything on Friday.

Everything is looking very, very good, nice work:)

I agree that the diamond-plate deck looked cool but not very good for practical use.

My templates for my bow were terrible also and I had a heck of a time trying to get everything to fit perfectly.

Can't wait to see what she looks like assembled for the final time:D

That tank looks awesome sitting in there!:D

How the heck do the fittings work though? It doesn't look like you have enough room for them in between the deck and the tank?

Drain (side going to motor) is coming out the side you see down low, and the vent/fill are on the other side. The sender is the only thing that "had" to be on the top of the tank.
