Re: 1972 Glastron GT-160

I know what you mean about poor prep work and glass that is popping up. The same thing is happening to me in my boat. Some of it is just pulling up as I am grinding along. You are right just makes my job that much easier. I am going to make sure that the glass I put in won't do that!! Nice cap rack :)

Heck, some of that glass looks clean and never touched with resin... You might could save some of it for scraps and remnant pieces. (just kidding, sort of)... I also like the cap rack....one of the best i've seen... Your are off to a great start..

Hey dude...

One of the best hull shapes... I'm in love! It looks fast all the time, in and out of the water...

Slow down on the demo! :D

Re: 1972 Glastron GT-160

looks like your doing great bud.

just a couple of quick things before you get too far in to the build.

your trailer is a roller....it will point load the hull causeing warping while placing the stringers and or foam in..

you have to change that......if you place a few 2x6 along the bottom of the hull.,,like trailer bunks, and place them on the flat spots of the hull.....(not on the strakes) you will be fine....

second...that raw glass is just a shame......i see it all too often.
the really great news about it, is that when you get your boat back together......you will know it has no structural flaws....you will know nothing like that is below your deck....

the feeling we get when splashing a boat that we have built with our own hands, knowing it is safe knowing there are no flaws like that under the deck is just super

I'm actually planning on building a cradle for it. When the PO had the work done it was done on the rollers, I'm going to stringline the hull before I put the new wood in.

It was a shame. I bought it knowing there was a chance everything might need redone. I paid him what I would of for a total rebuilder so I won't be out much.

Re: 1972 Glastron GT-160

Today I got the "new" part of the deck out. I cut the tabbing to the hull and it came out pretty easy. I did find some delam on the hull from the factory layup. I'm going to try to get a cradle made up this week before I go to much farther. A couple more hours of demo and I should be able to start grinding and putting new wood in. I have a feeling this is going to be a breeze compared to the Silverline :)

Re: 1972 Glastron GT-160

Well I havn't done any work on the boat for awhile. I was getting ready to get some supplies ordered and then the transmission went out in my truck the other day :( 1800 bucks for a reman and that's with me installing it. Life always seems to throw me a curveball just when I'm starting to get caught up.

Got the new transmission in and made it about 100 miles before it started having problems. Still need to take it in to get looked at since it's under warranty. No progress on the boat. I have a buddy who has been begging me to sell it to him but I don't really want to. We'll see how it goes.

I wont be splashing this one yet. We also have a 91 galaxie 19' deckboat that is pretty much ready to go. That would be the one to make the journey with us.

Re: 1972 Glastron GT-160

It should be a great time! That is if I don't have a heart attack when we get the final bill. It seems there is so much left to do and working 12 hours a day doesn't help. We have some pretty awesome friends and family who have helped us out alot. She is really wanting me to get the boat ready so we can take it with us, I think she is just ready to hit the lake again :D Who am I to argue??

Re: 1972 Glastron GT-160

I got a call back from the transmission shop today and now they don't want to cover it under warranty now. I filed a complaint with the better business bureau and am hoping to hear something in the next few days.
