Now that is good news...congrats...hopefully it will hold up to all the abuse you can dish out to it...

OK, now back to our regularly scheduled program of restoring a fleet of boats...

I'm pretty tough on it. I tow more than I should with it. Sometimes up to 10k pounds. It's only a half ton but it pulls good.

I finished putting the cradle together today. I just need to slide the boat on to see if I need to add any more supports up near the front since I only made it 10' long. I think it would even hold the Silverline :D

I havn't done anything more the last couple of days. We went to the lake yesterday and it was miserable. It was pretty windy and the lake was very choppy. Our tri hull is not very forgiving of the wakes. I did a little tubing but there was no way I would have been able to ski. It's still only the beginning of summer so we have plenty of lake time left :D

Today I got the glastron switched over onto the cradle and put back in the garage and I also pulled the cap back off. We also spent the afternoon fishing. The fishing wasn't great but it was just nice to be out.

I think I have enough support with the cradle so unless someone says otherwise I'll leave it as is :D

I wish I could afford a fleet of boats like my buddy boatnut. I would be commodore Dave!
If you asked him nicely maybe Gus would let you park a few in his yard. He has lots of room now since he unloaded?er got rid of a big one not too long ago.

This morning I got the stringers and transom pulled out. All I had to do was cut the tabbing that was full of air bubbles and smack the stringers with a hammer and they popped right out. The transom took a little more persuasion.

It doesn't even look like they ground down the transom before putting in the new wood. The outside skin is a little wavy to. I'll try to get a pic of it so I can maybe get some advice.

There was already water intrusion into the transom with rot starting. I found alot of delam on the new stuff they put in.

Here is a shot of the transom skin. It doesn't want to budge when I push on it but I still have some old wood to grind off so that might help (I hope)

I did a little grinding today. It was really hot out so I didn't work very long. I can already tell this is going to be a long process. There are some areas near the transom where the resin is almost half an inch thick from the previous repairs. Forward of that shouldn't be to bad. I was using 24 grit resin discs and they work awesome. I believe bear recommended them to me. Hopefully I can do some more in the morning but it depends on how late I stay out fishing tonight :D

Just wanted to offer my encouragement to you Boatnut. It looks like a really fun project. Glastrons ruled the 70's for style. Someday I hope to restore one. Can't wait to see more pics of your progress.

I havn't done any work on the boats lately. I lost my job 3 weeks ago so I have been job hunting instead. Hopefully soon I can start working on them again.

I have a job lined up and I should start Monday. It didn't bother me to much as I look at it as an opportunity to get out and try something new. The wife says I should take the time and go to school so I can get a business going like I have been wanting to do for the last couple of years.

i have heard you can put a womans hose/stocking over the air vents on the grinder, it still allows air but keeps out the glass wich is what ruins the motor.

I usually use a scotchbright pad with rubber bands as a filter. It seems to work alright.

I'm hoping to get the rest of the front deck and stringers pulled out before I start the new job on Thursday. It is supposed to be 100 degrees for the next week so I don't know if I will do any grinding, maybe if I can get up early enough when it's still cool out.
