Is the cam screw bottomed out?-----And you can use the timing marks on the flywheel ( yes there are two ) and the vertical lines on the magplate to set points with a meter.----Gets you the STRONGEST spark.----Tutorials on U-TUBE for this " best method " that I have used since about 1968 !

the actual gap isn't all that critical. the timing of the openning is critical
see video. .020 is a ballpark using the high point of the cam

just adjust the gap openning " time" per video

I watched videos all I could find.Mine does not have the access holes in the flywheel to adjust
I EVEN BOUGHT A TIMING TOOL.WHEN I TRY TO ADJUST THEM I GET 0.00 across the meter.I think it should read ol for open link.I can adjust them and see the points open and still reads 0.00.I am touching the points on the metal part that has the moving contact and across the insulator on the screw side.It blows my mind.I wander if the multi meter is bad it's a Walmart everstart.Setting is the upside down horseshoe which is ohms.Im going get my brother in law over who is an electrician to show me what I'm doing wrong

I d
I don't think think the cam screw is bottomed out it turns easy and I can see them open and close

Sit back / relax and study videos.----This is EASY.-----Showed my technique using the marks on the flywheel to a friend.----He said ----" wow , this is magic "----Not sure why you mentioned hole in the flywheel !----Do you understand that you are setting the points to open at the correct instant to TIME THE MAGNETO?----Timing relative to piston in the cylinder in automatic !!

did you remove all wires from the point screw because your primary coil wire goes to ground and a bad condenser could be shorted to ground . test only from the screw side and frame ground .......if the points visually open at the high point of the cam you will see infinity (ol)
millions of OB work that way and yours is no exception.

did you follow the video posted above . I doubt your meter is bad ! just pretest by shorting both probes to get 0 ohms and infinity when not touching

I was referring to the video on this thread posted above his is an older model with the inspection cover on flywheel.I was referring to this as the hole.He adjusted points through it

I was holding the probes on the points. One on the part that moves and one on the screw side that the coil condeser and I think kill wire hook to.I disconnected all wires going to points.

the only place to measure is on the screw side....and the engine body with the VOM scale at the lowest setting... personnaly I realy like analog meters with a needle adjustment to set the 0 value on the scale when probes are shorted.

the rotating cam will open the point gap at he high point and you will get infinity (ol) .
