I have a 1973 Johnson 50esl73r Most of the time it cranks over you raise the warmer then bump the choke and it starts right up. sometimes it will crank over fine but wont fire. I am not getting fire on either coil. I need some instruction on how to test the ignition circuit and the power pack for proper operation. (then an hour later it starts fine again)

thats exactly what I was looking for! Thank you very much. The only thing I am confused about it that the engine doesn't charge the batteries and the title of the article is alternator driver CD ignition. I was under the impression that this engine did not have an alternator.

where is the stator? and where or what is a DVI. I know where the powerpack and the coils are.
