As the title says. Just replaced the head gasket and the water jacket gasket. New thermostat. Hasn’t ran since I realized what was wrong with it and fixed everything. As you can see in the pictures, I have what looks to be some type of temperature probe that goes into a grommet. I’m not sure if there is supposed to be something attached on the other side of this wire? And also, what does this wire go to? Does it regulate motor temp? It runs decent until I hit high RPM and then it begins to sputter and bogged down. I think it to be a carb issue but I’m also not sure if it’s sensing an overheat because this temperature probe is not correctly installed. Thank you for your help!

That would be the Thermal Switch for the Overheat Horn. It is not cheap, about $170. Lower down on the Head there is another Thermal Switch, with 2 wires, that one is for the Thermo Electric Choke

Is this the purple and black and black wire? They are also disconnected. They are hanging off as well. Is the thermo electric choke necessary? Or just an accessory?

Also, if it is necessary, where can I look for a replacement? And where do the black and purple wires go from the pack?

Actually, there was a service bulletin suggesting re-wiring to defeat the thermo-electric choke.

That’s what I’ve heard. It seems it was an obselete/ non necessary setup. I just cranked it tilted with more fuel and it ran like a champ. Taking it out tomorrow to see if I have any bogging issues
