Ok I needed to do a carb rebuild on my Johnson. When I tried to run things on the water muff the key would not engage the starter. I could jump the starter and get the boat running. I had a spare key switch that worked and I swapped that. I then bought a new starter solenoid from iboats and now I cant get it to crank with the key. When the key is in the on Position I have power to the "S" position on the starter. I tested the neutral switch in the controls and when its in neutral I have continuity at the switch. . My choke with operates too. Just no fire? Is there another switch that might be preventing the engine from firing? Also I checked the fuse that is near the starter solenoid.

Do I need to ground the starter solenoid?

Ok well new development. I found another "plunger" style switch near the wheel that has the arm for spark advance and throttle advance. When the key is in the on position and I ground that switch it cranks. I am thinking maybe I wired up the switch wrong because I am not cranking the switch to get it to start it cranks.

boatsafetyswitch_zps00ca1eb0.jpgOk this was the problem the switch wasn't grounding. I have a jumper to bypass it for now. Also I had the Accessory and Starter terminal switched on my key switch
