first layer of CSM on the transom.
plan for today, a little bit more grinding on the hull and then to clean out and wash down the inside of the hull. preparing for the joining of the transom to the hull

Two things, 1.) I'd cover the entire transom wood with a layer of CSM prior to Install. Resin is worthless without mat and will crack unless it has fibers to hold it together. 2.) And this is NOT a necessity, just MY OWN personal preference, I drill a dozen 1" holes in the transom to allow air to escape and PB to OOZE into and form a mechanical bond. Learned it form OOPS!
Lastly, Either use a Drill Guide or make your own Drill Bridge from a 2x6 ...

to drill all your holes AFTER the transom is installed. Everything else is absolutely spot on. You should save those drawings and post em in your signature. They're better than mine!!!!

Thanks for the response...i was going back and forth about covering the entire wood piece in CSM....but you've convinced me to do it.
the 1" holes i'm going to do also.

as far as getting all my holes drilled perpendicular to the outer transom....i picked up one of these at a yard sale...new unopened for $1:

first coat of resin is on the transom...kinda cool out so may take longer to cure

second coat tomorrow...hopefully

just to get an idea of the size of this beast....since it's hard to tell from that picture....the top of the transom is 86-1/2" wide

had a thought about PB'ing the wood transom to the hull....since my hull is full of holes (keyhole, drains, rear platform, etc...) when i go to clamp the transom in, some of the PB will ooze out those existing holes and stick to the outer skin of the hull. My thinking is to apply some sort of wax, or WD40, or somethin like that, to the outer skin of the hull, so the PB wont stick to my new paint...and can just wipe it down after i'm done.

I use plastic Wax Paper & Packing tape to tape over the holes to keep the OOZE from happening. I LOVE the video. I sent you a PM

well...the transom is sitting loosely in the boat....
plan for the weekend was to test fit and drill the holes for the clamps, wash the inside of the hull and PB the transom to the hull and clamp it up.
but probably not going to happen.

if anyone is interested...a transom that measures approx. 86" wide...34" tall....1-1/2" thick...and covered and sealed with resin and 1 layer of CSM on all sides.....weighs right at 80lbs.

coicidentally....80 lbs...dropped from approx. 12"....has enough force to shatter your large toe...through sneakers...

get follow up x-rays done on sunday

Oh hell that hurts.I know how that feels.I have broken all my toes on both feet,not all at the same time.I never take my steel toes off except when I am in the house.

thanks for the good wishes...
and thanks to my neighbor, the transom is PB's to the inner hull and all clamped up...
suppose to rain late today, so i dont think we'll get the edges filleted with PB today or not.

took about 1-1/2 gallons resin + chopped fibers + glass bubbles

ok...transom was clamped up for about 24 hours.....
removed the clamps...so far all looks good.
neighbor came back over and we mixed up some PB and fillet'd the edges...filled in the gaps and put a nice fillet in...mixed up a bit too much PB, so we went abit overboard on the fillets....can always grind out the the excess...

toe update...split the last segment of toe from the end, under the nail, up to the first joint....not much they can do, just buddy tape it to the next toe...and take it easy......
