When done it looks like a wadded up gum or crap in the transom

Oops!!!! Sorry meant to say use a sledge to bang the transom up... not to remove the drain plugs!!!! Yeh, the approach you described works great... lol.

Not much more on the nova, but I did get my hands on another merc over the weekend :facepalm:

It's a 65hp model 650, I paid $35 for it, and I think it's been sitting in a garage since 1976

I'm going over it in my Jet Star thread, since it seemed more fitting, but in the end that engine may go on the nova if the 850 does not work out.

And I also went to the boat show this weekend, and saw a few bare aluminum hulls.
I asked about what they use to seal the aluminum, and I was told nothing...
the guy was a salesman, so he prob just did not know...

And if I remember right, it means "Doesn't Go" in Spanish. GM had a hard time selling there Nova south of the border, had to change the name.

Maybe a renaming ceremony is in order: Phoenix ~ The whole rising from the ashes of an erupting 'Nova' kind of thing. Otherwise destined to become a bottomless black whole when it collapses upon itself!

Being sidelined & unable to work on the FireFlite, I've had lots of surfing the net time. I have a line on a 'usable' Century Raven (glass) because I'd really like to use a boat this spring & early summer. That is clearly not in the cards w/ the FireFlite. So..............They're all boats & they all float, so if I can get my grubby mitts on a SC T-word, I may just grab it.

This started it:

And is priced attractively, just too high as a 2nd boat, for me to continue sleeping in the house...And w/out a carport, it gets chilly overnight here until mid-late May. When looking for a shorty 65hp Merc, I found a SC that was just a tad too far just to go look, for $400 boat, motor (40hp), & trailer. And didn't call. Now I'm looking almost twice that far, just to find 1.:facepalm: Still kicking myself...

The one in this photo is good looking though! Oughta go buy a powerball....

Well a little update

I finally got the transom pulled!

I finally used a prybar and moved it from left to right and then started pounding on the blocks screwed into it.

I went to fastenal and they did not have anything much longer than what home depot had, but he did find some 1in grip range they could special order

so put it on order, he pretty much told me if they don't call me by friday, they are not in yet...

wrote down my CC# on a piece of paper and now I wait...

and I found this site, looks a bit better and easier to use

Also I ordered the rivets with a 1in grip range, hopfully enough to get the 3/4in board to stay down
