Re: 1974 Bayliner Discovery 1850 Restore
I am at work so I will get pics and video up after work.
But if anyone cares,
A couple days ago, i decided to take a break from the boat and work on my trailer.
So i went to HF and bought me a Angle grinder with warranty (40 bucks including 2 year replacement warranty

)
and a 4.5" poly abrasive wheel which i found out works 110% better than the Wire Brush Wheel... look it up folks it takes the paint and rust off!
I decided to remove the rusty bolts using my double cut saw! works great even on steel! once i got the leaf spring removed i found 2 big rust holes in the main frame rails!! i went nuts, i searched everywhere and to get a replacement rail would cost around 140 each! i would need two of them... So i had already cancelled my order for new axle... and found a Craigslist add for a Rienell with Trailer!
I took a couple hours off work yesterday to go check it out. it was a 1969 rienell runabout, with trailer (C-channel not Boxed steel which is what I wanted for better maintenance!! )
I was ready to shell out the 200 bucks the guy wanted... it had a flat wheel but i can take care of that...
but when i got to the boat it looked like pooo! but it was ok, because the trailer only has surface rust so i wouldnt mind paying 200 for it... low and behold... I hit a Treasure chest!!
This is all that the boat came with...
2 Oars
3 Life Jackets
1 Stern Light
1 Fishing Pole
1 Sea Radio (Cheap its garbage)
....
now get ready for this
2 Marine Batteries (1 brand new, other one is from budget batteries!!)
1 Cuda Fish Finder with sender!!
and 1 1977 70HP Johnson outboard (70EL77S)
with controls and everything
all for 200 bucks??
did i get a deal or what! especially since i only wanted the trailer in the first place!
both the boat and trailer have titles and registration until 2012, although this saturday I am taking the boat to the Local Waste place to dispose of it, I am going to get everthing out of it first that i wanna keep.
The sanitation says it would cost around 52.50 for 1000lb...
how much do you think this rienell would weight?
but yeah i think i got a pretty good deal..
especialyl since the guy who sold it was just out in the water with it and he said it just wouldnt start... so I tried it and sure enough it just clicks.. the starter wants to move.. but it doesnt, so i am going to try to take the starter off, clean off all the battery contacts, all the starter contacts and figure out what the problem is, they starters look easy enough to disassemble... than im gonna disassemble the stuff that i need to clean/derust (not much) and beadblast and repaint it, print off factory stickers with my vinyl machine and i will sell it
tell me what you guys think
