I tried using this and it is not a good idea. The fumes are horrible and it kept tripping the GFI. I found it faster and easier to use an old fashion handsaw.

I was and still am interested in building a home out of structural insulated panels. They are essentially two pieces of OSB held parallel in a press and foam injected between them to form a building product that looks like a giant ice cream sandwich and is also very efficient and builder friendly. While visiting a plant in Louisville KY the salesman gave me this tool. It is a hot knife and used to hollow out the foam for dimensional lumber which is used to fasten of splice the panels together. I plan to use it to scoop out the old foam in my Arabian. Should work well.

I checked into the SIP panels when I built my house .. I ended up using the ICF foam blocks with the 4" poured in concrete instead ... But from what I've heard the SIP panels are good also ..

If I ever get to build my own house, I'll be picking your brain. My friend used the blocks and he said he wished he'd have thought about having a bright flashlight that would let him see down inside the cavity during the poor.

Here is a video of the recent work I have finished.

Does anyone know why this tube is here? It extends from up under the bow to 2/3rds of the way ender the fuel tank. It appears to be about 4 inches in diameter. The forward end looks like it has a 1 inch hole where foam may have been injected and the aft end is plugged.

Filling the S'ban up with foam and rubbish.

More rubbish.

Giving the potting soil back to the landfill.

Engine bay.

Main cabin.

I kept that one piece of foam to use as a step and a seat. The boat is a little harder to get in and out of with the floor removed.

I've been using the rains from the last couple days to clean out the boat. each rainfall I scrub the belly with soap and vacuum it out. A few more times and I should have the grease and oil out of the fiberglass. I don't want to start grinding until I'm reasonable sure the surface is cleaned followed by a good acetone and towel wash has taken place.

Seeing as there is no center stringer i would assume the glassed tube would be a hull stiffener .. Thats my guess ...

I think you are right Sam!

I couldn't see lugging this up to the attic, so it's now patio furniture. I caught my wife Cara shopping on line for real patio furniture. I've been after her for a year to purchase some. This may of worked?

I have my transmission apart and found there was not a thing wrong. A friend of mine that works the third shift at a large factories machine shop polished my transmission front pumps gerotors and bead blasted the clutch stators. I plan to reassemble it tomorrow.

Well, I have the transmission reassembled and 4 bearings ordered for the v-drive. Bad news is I have to put the project on hold for 4 months or more while I head overseas. I'll be back in time for the mid summer East Texas humidity. Should be a great time for grinding and fiberglass work. Hopefully the moderators will cut me some slack if I have nothing to post while I'm gone. I'll have internet access so I'll be spending time studying more of your posts. Thanks to all of you watching my rebuild and also for all the help and inspiration.

I left 10 days ago in the UHaul with the boat in tow for East Tennessee. I'm now back in East Texas until I get word of my status with work.

Oddly enough, my Father-in-law opens up the locate village newspaper and finds this photo of the boat featured leaving his neighborhood for my hanger at TN44 airport. What are the chances of that?

Ha! Sam, as the article states, I did not notice it. I hadn't noticed much, having only slept for two hours in the cab the night before.

The article goes on to say they painted the back of the stop signs black.

I'm glad the move is over and I have a shop to work in. Next to get the house sold and fill up another truck with the household goods and furniture.
