Idles fine in the driveway and on the water. Give it full throttle and it sputters and backfires from the carburater. Won't go over 10 mph. I changed the points, condenser and plugs. Put HEET in the gas tank with new fuel and stabil. Sprayed carb cleaner in the carb and still have the same problem. Should I replace all fuel filters and fuel pump?

Howdy, EEOCRAM.

Welcome to iboats. :)

First lesson: Mercruiser is not an outboard, it is an I/O.

Moving this.

When you installed the new parts, did you confirm the point dwell, then check the timing, then readjust the idle mixure and idle speed?
Spraying carb cleaner on and in a carb makes it look nice, but does nothing on how it works.

1st I don't see where I indicated mine was an outboard. 2nd found out that the ignition wires were not hooked up correctly. Once I fixed, set the points at .022 ,cleaned the carb, put in some HEET and stabil, took out on the water worked like a charm. Very happy, going fishin in the mornin. Stayin on the river all day. Just got the boat last Friday.
