What ever that plank of wood in the center is call, it will need to be replaced. A good amount of water came out from under it when I cleared clogging debris.

The boat is indescribably lighter now, I really cant emphasize enough how much lighter it is.

We are trying the Larson at the lake again tomorrow after class (last day for this semester). When I get home Ill get a little more transom work done and have photos too. Thanks for the welcomes and nice words!

Looks like a transducer for a fishfinder or depth finder.......

Re: 1974 Sea Ray SRV193

I ordered glass and I should be getting my first three sheets of marine grade ply when and if it ever stops raining.

There is a manufacturing plant for resins about 10 miles from my house. I would like to use their Ester-vinyl laminating resin. The company is AOC(AOC Resins?::?Welcome) and I am wondering if anyone has an opinion on their resins.

I think I will remove that transducer, I have no use for a fish finder or depth finder.

I have Reichhold vinyl ester lam resin. I made a fat finger when I ordered my glass, I ordered 25 yards of 1708:facepalm:. Im still waiting for the plywood. Im currently finishing enigne install in my truck, once its done I can swing by the factory and get the wood.

Re: 1974 Sea Ray SRV193

There's a place off getwell not far from Shelby drive called Advanced Plastics. It's where I've been getting all my supplies. They have laminating resin for $108 for 5 gallons. Haven't been able to find 1708 through them but they have CSM and all the fiberglass tools you could need. Only issue is some stuff is bulk. Had to buy a big bag of aerosil but it's decently priced. Nice folks though even though they should be as much as I've spent there! Holler at me if you need any advice. I'd be glad to help as long as its not doing any glassing or grinding!

And you'd be surprised how much of that 1708 you'll use. I used a 20 yard roll and two 25 yard rolls of 6" tape. But then again I redid my transom twice!

Re: 1974 Sea Ray SRV193

Thanks Marada92,
If you need any help let me know. I actually like grinding but many claim Im not quite right. I bought my resin from Advanced Plastics, pretty nice guys over there. Im a little worried about my mixing ratios for the resins I cant find any specs from Reichhold. The last time I did composites I used epoxy.

I have a couple new pictures of the transom and bilge, LOTS of resin and very little fiber glass.....

Hose away. The only times I would not hose out the boat, 1) when you have fresh (less then 24 hr) resin/glass poured, 2) new bare wood waiting to be glassed, 3) right before you are going to glass.

Thanks!

Any opinions on securing the new wood to the transom? Im leaning heavily towards PB.

As I stated, the link has all that info. PB is my chosen method with the addition of drilling holes to aid in the mechanical bonding of the transom to the outer skin.

Re: 1974 Sea Ray SRV193

I had so much trouble with the pl that I don't think I'd ever use it again bonding something to fiberglass with it... Ripping out a new transom made me go PB for everything... A little more costly sure but I know I don't have to worry about it!

Re: 1974 Sea Ray SRV193

Actually, PL is about $15 a tube and it would take about 2-3 tubes to glue your transom to the outer skin of your boat. Resin is $30 a Gallon and It will take about 3 Quarts of PB to Glue the transom to the Outerskin of the boat. Figure in your chopped Strand and Cabosil and I believe you'll find that using PB is a bit less expensive than the PL and as stated a heck of a lot stronger bond, faster set up and IMHO easier to work with. I use to recommend PL for bedding stringers but no longer. PB all the way.

Re: 1974 Sea Ray SRV193

I will press on with PB. I went with the vinylester because it supposedly has a longer setup time which should help when using it in PB. Im waiting for two gaskets for my truck which should be here today. If all goes well the hauler will have a new engine buttoned up and tomorrow morning Ill be driving down to interstate plywood to get some Marine plywood.
