Roger... Nice work... The trailer looks sharp and the boat looks smurferrific... (the outcome, that is, not the color).. Seriously, not that it would, but don't let my stupid little smurf joke give you any second guesses... It looks great; You are doing a great job....

yeah, i kinda like the bunks with the sliders, plus this is a tilt trailer and i have another idea for her, something that they do back home in Hawaii all the time..... it's a surprise.

You're gonna grease the bunks with poi? :D

Yeah, the site is having issues. You can Post pics via photobucket but NOT with the site servers. They're working on it.

Hey buddy: There is a yellow banner on this at the top of the page ^^^^. they are doing some post-hacking maintenance to the site, and so we have limited functionality for awhile. Oops even posted his first moderator sticky on this.... Proud moment for us... I almost teared up a little.

Re: 1975 Starcraft 140 Evinrude OB -- Restoration IN PROGRESS FINALLY

for all you tinny guys, and anyone else of course, i went to drill the holes in for the transom on the sides but they do not line up as straight line holes. i have a jig, kind of like the one friscobaoter used to keep me at the right angle, which i thought was straight. it appears that there is some type of angle. Not sure if anyone else has run into this or if it might be just from the transom being stretched and bending from due to the old motor.

Just wanted to make sure before i put holes in that thar purtty peace a wood......

plan on a small hole first for lining everything up then a slightly larger one while it is in the boat, then pulling it from the boat overdrill it slightly larger, little coating of epoxy then follow up wiht some 5200 just to be sure. don't really want to have to keep drilling this thing out.

RR - do you think clamping the AL to the ply might help? Do you have a gap between the AL skin and the wood?

yeah, i tried that earlier this morning. it did help with the very top hole but the others along the sides are about 3-5 deg maybe. guess the only way is going to be to just drill it and try the best i can to hit both holes and then try to walk the bit over if i miss. a large enough washer on the inside should do it as well if i miss that bad and end up with a partial new hole.

As long as you're drilling from the outside in the booboos will be hidden. Knee braces might be a bear to line up the holes.

You have a good plan man, smaller bit to a bigger bit should do the trick. You can also drill from both sides, that'll help too.

GA is right though, the knee braces are the most difficult to get straight and looking good.

You'll get er!

THanks fellas. yeah i think the "boo boos" if any will be hidden on the inside. the jig helps out a ton for lining it all up. I might try the both side attempt as well.

the funny thing is that witht he jig, set at 0 deg and flush to the boat it lines right up no problems. go figure the one spot i thought would be the problem is not at this point but the other is..... insert facepalm here........

we will see TODAY! only thing is that the weather dropped so it is taking longer for things to set up.

anyone know where to get a nylock nut that will fit the 1" drain tubes for the WOG drawing on how to bevel the drain tube?

Winter is finally coming - Rats. HD only carries up to 3/4 hardware, don't know about Lowes. And I'm not sure if they have Nylocs that large. I'm thinking anything with a round face hat you can drill through would work to flare the tube. As long as the material is harder than the drain tube. This is when I start going up and down the aisles at the big box stores.

Haha that is exactly what i do to. only i could not find anything that was rounded over to be able to that with. the drain tubes are brass and thin so i would think it would work. Guess i will keep hunting for something.

A pool ball would work. PS - don't use the 8 ball. LOL

now that is an idea.... and then, true to hot rod form, I would have to mount it on my shifter for the OB.. if i can find one, #2 for the blue, than it is a done deal.....

I'm prolly late to the party, but I have used a block of wood, drilled with a close to perfect 90 degree hole in it as a guide for the bit...
