Bow is almost complete. Seats are bolted down. Hopefully, I'll get a bunch more done tomorrow.

Bad weather may delay splash. Supposed to be 15-25mph winds for the next few days. If possible, we'll launch on the lake and make a quick dash to the river...where water will be shielded from the wind.

SPLASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't get everything finished, but splashed anyway. It was windy and a tad choppy, but we had a good time.

Took on quite a bit of water....I never replaced the bolts that go thru the transom and connect with the knee brace. I could see right thru the holes. I ended up stuffing duct tape in the holes with a screwdriver to stop the leaking. The Rule 1100 bilge pump worked like a charm. :)

I ended up pulling the TNT relay wires from the holder and put new spade connectors on them. The TNT worked flawlessly while on the water

Did you forget the plug? Nah, I left 3/8" holes on my transom. The pump worked. :D And nothing serious happened. Note to me - Get some new duct tape, you never know when you need it.

Nice fish, so another successful splash. :cheer2: Good on the TNT working after the wiring change.

Have a lot of great trips.

We had been fishing for a bit...when I decided to check the bilge. The bilge was full and water was coming onto floor. The Rule pump made pretty quick work of all the water though.

We were fishing in 4ft of water...so not much danger involved.

Is it normall for the knee brace bolts to go completely thru the transom? Seems unnecessary.

--- Listen, we can't have these everything was great, 'I splashed it, even though I'm not done' SPLASH posts......... Esp not w/: 'Oh & I left 6 3/8" holes wide open below the water line'

NOT w/: We had a good time........

And FOR SURE NOT w/: 'We caught some fish too'.............

AND ABSOLUTELY NOT w/: 'Here are the pix to prove it'..................

Truly irresponsible & careless. Heartless even......... :tsk: IDK, just plain mean maybe too.....

Carp, who am I kidding, wish I'd been there....

Looks GREAT! Congrats. Now finish up & enjoy the rest of the season....

The holes weren't 3/8ths....probably more like 1/4". It's much safer to go out with 1/4" holes .

Right - less tape needed. ;) Other than that, glad to see a good splash.

Congrats on the Shakedown as well as the nice lump of a Smallie!

One heck of a way to gain confidence in your bilge pump!

Unfortunately, no way to do a WOT run with all of the chop n the lake. We took a lot of spray over the bow...even when taking it easy.

Awsome, good to see a StarCraft on the water. One day I'm going to get to catch a Bass.

Great stuff man!! Glad you were able to get out! The lakes here are still of the solid type... so good to see somewhere there is a liquid lake! Congrats...

Just scored a Minn Kota Maxxum 55lb thrust trolling motor tonight. It's in super shape and is much more robust than my MK 40lb thrust motor. The shaft is longer, too(52" I believe). Now I shouldn't have any issues with the prop coming out of the water in choppy conditions.

Going to start the install shortly. The bow rail is going "bye-bye" to make room for the trolling motor. I've been wanting to get rid of the rail for awhile. I've never been n love with the looks of the railing...and it also gets in my way if I have to lean over the side to grab a fish.

Sounds like a great score on the trolling motor. I like the look of the bow rails, but I agree with you that they can get in the way on a fishing boat.

Re: 1975 Super Sport 16' boat requesting admission to the Starmada! (2nd Splash compl

Got the powerdrive TM off the bow. Took off the fishfinder also. Now I'm trying to decide how to reinforce the bow piece. Currently, the bow skin is too thin and flexible to handle the torque of a trolling motor. With the powerdrive TM, if it went from off to full power it would flex the aluminum skin and make some noise as the boat started to move forward.

I can't decide whether to put a ply backer board under the skin on the bow....OR....put a carpeted piece if ply ON the bow skin. Putting the plate ON the bow will cover up the ugly holes in the bow skin, but it will also raise up the TM a tad...and id like to keep the TM as low in the water as I can.

I'm open to any suggestions on how to reinforce the bow area(inexpensively).

I'll be watching as I'm facing the same issue. Ideally I'd also like that area stronger enough to be stepped on without damaging stuff.

The more I think about it...the more I'm realizing that putting the plate ON the bow skin, is the best choice. That way I can rivet the front edge of the plate to the thick aluminum out edge trim. Problem is that the new TM shaft isn't much longer than the Powerdrive(maybe a couple inches) and the prop is much bigger...so I'm not gaining much length at all. I hate to eat up the measly length I've gained, with a 1/2" plate. I don't do a lot of trolling in choppy water...so I guess it won't be a big deal though.

The new TM is def a beast in comparison to the Powerdrive. According to what I've read, it should run more efficiently than my Powerdrive...and use less battery...even though it's a higher thrust model. Apparently the Maxxum(among others in this class) will run though very thick vegetation with ease. My current motor would get choked fairly regularly when going through weeds etc.
