Does anyone know what the primary and secondary winding numbers should be when using a multi-meter? Thanks

I have the 76 9.9hp. It uses a driver coil a high tension coils same as the 15hp. I would think they are the same coils. Service manual states using an ohm meter: Primary 1.35 +/- .3 ohm. Secondary 13500 +/- 1500 ohms.

Flyingscott yes I was just wanting to check the one coil that I took off. Just curious as to what the readings were. Also I ordered new points and condensers. I’ll change those too.

Thx. How do you like your 9.9? Does it run good? I’ve had mixed reviews. Thx

I've had the 9.9 for about 10 years. Runs good but I don't use it often. I found it's worth having a new set of plugs on hand cause they will fail . Often happens while at WOT and 1 cylinder drops out. I've found it best to just stop and swap for new plugs then carry on. I put points, condensers, 1 coil and a fuel pump in it in 10 years. Always starts on the second or third pull. I still prefer my 18hp over the 9.9,but there are some lakes that are limited so it's nice to have.

What brand of plugs do you use? Ty

I had a 1974 9.9 for a while. One thing that seemed to help was this suggestion from Leroy's Ramblings:

First off for the 9.9/15hp, if you are doing any work under the flywheel, you should consider replacing the original white or black friction ring on the timing plate (actually called the bearing). The new brown ones #322435 are made of Delrin and the word is from a experienced mechanic that this really helps these old motors as they seem to be a tighter fit. John Gill explained the later brown colored one was a tighter fit to make the magneto plate have less slop, especially at idle, so the pull of the flywheel magnets against the coil would not cause the timing to jump around as much and give smoother low speed running. The modified throttle cam was to try and give more throttle opening when accelerating from idle so the engine would clear out quicker as it tended to load up with fuel/oil after long periods of trolling. The revised ring also helped stabilize the magneto plate with the electric start option.

Thx. Mine says UL81C just for years 74-76. Just replaced points and condensers. Gonna try to take it out when I get time.
