1976 Evinrude 85HP

I'm doing the Carbs and Fuel pump. (Clean/Rebuild)

Do I need to buy a whole brand new pump or is there a rebuild kit for it like other pumps?
If I have to buy the whole pump, does anyone know where to go for the best price? $100 is too steep.

That fuel pump looks very similar to mine, and I have rebuilt mine with a $12 kit. Funny thing is that I cant find a rebuild kit for yours, just the whole fuel pump. Have a look at this.

Does anyone know if the pumps are similar? Can the rebuild kit from the 75HP be used on the 85HP?

I confirmed, same fuel pump, as they are cross referenced. The part number for the rebuild kit is 0393103. It's about $13. Simple rebuild.

Usually a fuel pump kit is nothing more then a diaphragm and a few gaskets. There really isn't much to one. BUT, the diaphragm is so important to change. It is the heart of the pump.

The 393103 pump rebuild kit is for 78 thru 83 engines. It does not apply to older engines. The 76 part number pumps are not the same part number as the 78 pumps.

Hmmm, well when I cross refereced the fuel pump of the 76 it says that its the same as all the way up to '83, and the '83 fuel pump rebuild part # is 393103

I guess it's all this superseding stuff that makes it confusing.

I think you have the "old" or original style fuel pump. This kit is for the newer fuel pump. There is a chance that yours has been updated or converted. Could you send a picture of the fuel pump that is on your motor? EMD is a really reputable member, so I want him to give us a final chime in because there is a good chance that this kit will not work for you.

If it is the original pump, the kit is 393103 (18-7820 here at iboats)

I have a whole pump off here brand new I bought the wrong one I'd take like 45bucks + shipping .

It's the one with out the vacum line .

Best of my knowledge there are basically three different kits available. One of them will fit your pump. Which one? I ain't exactly sure. Just went through this with my '83 140.

I'd bring the pump body, or an old gasket if you can save one, to an outfit that stocks the kits & match it up.

If your fuel pump looks like this- , then 393103 wont work, you need omc# 0777774. The pumps are similar but look at the top where they taper, 393103 is different.

Correct. The pump body & bolt spacing are different at that end.

Another way to tell is look at the gasket sticking out on the left side of the pump. Does it have 2 tits or 3? And/or measure the bolt spacing.
