Usually you dont need to adjust a new float that comes.with a kit. But, since you have just try again. You will know you got it right when upon reassembly you hold the carb upside down and blow into the fuel in nipple and not be able to blow.

I only adjusted the back tab that regulates how far the float drops. Instructions said it should be level with the base of the carb housing when upside down and only drop to a 3/4 gap from the bottom of the carb housing to the bottom of the float when the carb is right side up. So am I correct to assume that no fuel should be coming up or around the main jet when squeezing the primer bulb?

Yes, your float/needle is not closing in at least those two carbs.

Just try again. You will get it. They can be finicky.

I am not so good at explaining over the net. Did you use an OEM kit or a sierra?

There are several reasons why they may not be closing.

1: poor adjustment, personally, i cant remember the last time i had to bend an oem float.

2. Float upside down if possible on your model. Some can go, some cant be installed upside down.

3. Dirt or debris in seat.

4. Missing or wrong seal between carb body and seat, if applicable.

5. ...

Good luck, if i am not explaining this well some one else may ba able to do it better.

. I used Sierra kits. I have them now to where I tilt the engine just a tad and no fuel comes out. However my bulb will get soft again in a matter of minutes or just after I start the engine. I took it out to the lake and it will idle fine.. But the low end is horrible. I put it in gear and and have to ease into the throttle.. It will bogg about a 1/4 way through and sometimes die.. If I get it to plane out she screams down river and I can adjust the throttle from midrange to wot with no hesitation whatsoever. Purrs like a kitten. However if I cut the throttle all the way down she dies, and if I let it come off plane the process starts all over.

If yhe bulb gets soft without cranking the motor you have a leak somewhere between the bulb and the carb, or a bad bulb. Once you start the engine the bulb should get softer. Because you did the test frim the post above and noticed fuel at the jets we can assume needle and seat issues and not bulb. Because it took time to notice we van assume the needles are closing somewhat but not completely. This explains all problems up to 1/2 throttle. After that the engine can process any extra fuel. At smaller throttle openings it can not process the extra fuel being forced past the seat with out experiencing poor performance.
