You got some nice BD work done, 850. Lookin' good!

Thanks GA, I was a nice to have the whole morning to work on it.

Not much progress today (so far) but here is the control box mounted with the cables and wires ran to the splash well.

I wonder if I can find a replacement for this? I'm sure there are sites that I could find one on.

Is that Vinyl or Aluminum? If it's vinyl you can get a duplicate made pretty cheap.

If you have a graphics place nearby that does vehicle wraps & lettering, they should be able to replicate that SS 16 Starcraft pretty easily. As a one-off, it might be more then you'd like to pay though. If they charge you for the graphic workup/layout/setup etc...

I'm going to see what I can come up with for the decal/logo. It might not be an exact duplication, thought about picking an "SS" logo reproduction for a Chevelle or something?

One quick wiring question, I have the original tachometer and there are only two wires (white and black) leaving the guage. But the plug that goes in to the control box has three wires (white, black and green). Is the green one for additional features?

Should be power, ground and signal. Is or was the ground connected to one of the mounting studs?

Unfortunately, I don't remember, but would it be the green wire? There are plenty of places to connect a ground to the case.

Does the green wire or any of the wires have a round ring connector? When I look an internal diagram of the control, black is ground, white is 12V and brown is tach. I don't know what the harness between the control and tach uses for colors.

Have a pic of the back of the tach?

I think I see the problem. Another POBI - He used an extension cord the connect the tach and control. That's why the W-B-G wires.

Is the plug still connected to the tach, the white and black wires? Has the tach worked?

Unfortunately no, nothing was connected. I suppose i could just try it with the motor running. Not sure if the tach works, I assume it does. But who knows for sure, it's pretty old.

Re: 1976 Starcraft Supersport 16'

What you could do is hook up a battery and put a meter on the three leads from the plug. One should have 12V with the key on, one should have a short to ground and the other should be open - the tach signal.

On the two wires into the tach, I think I see some makings or writing. Do the white and black out of the plug have the same markings? Is the tach a Merc tach?

I'll test the wires when I get a chance, I'm pretty sure its a Merc tach (if that's what they put on at the dealers in 1976).

I kept moving along yesterday and mounted the Tach, Light Switch and Horn button. I should have taken a picture, but the dash is pretty much done (aside from hooking up the wires, haha).

If you put a damp cloth on that decal and iron it out smooth and then take a good quality photo of it, you can go to this website and make your own decal very inexpensively.

Zazzle | Custom T-Shirts, Personalized Gifts, Posters, Art, and more.

I did and they turned out great!!!

I'll make sure to check this out, but in retrospect I don't there is going to be anything that will stick to the vinyl dash pad...

I almost need a patch or something I can glue on and hope for the best. If I wanted something more permanent I would probably have to get some embroidery done.

Thanks Brenn, I'm trying to get this thing on the water by Halloween (just for a test, I'll refrain from calling it the S word for now), and then spend the winter making sure its 100% by the time warm weather rolls back around in May.

Here is a picture of the guages that I mounted last weekend (I forgot to post pics).

Today I am going to get the steering cable hooked up, and see what I can do with the TnT bleeding procedure.

I was able to get the steering cable in and hooked up on both ends (turns out I have my steering wheel upside down ). Sorry no pics, and no other progress... At least I got something done this weekend!!!
