Re: 1976 tri-hull project

went down to the shop to have a look at the progress, and I was totally amazed at how much had been done in such a short time frame, as-well this guy is very detail oriented and is extremely thorough, so needless to say I was stoaked and very excited to see the finish product. I will post up-dated pictures of the hull on Monday:cool:.

Meadfisher, if you wouldn't mind....please let us know exactly what work you're having professionally done and take some pictures of the result. It would also be nice if we knew how much it's ends up costing you. Not that we're nosey but I think a lot of us on the forum would find this information valuable when deciding whether to take on a project or to get a real market value of our restoration efforts. Looking forward to seeing the progress.

Re: 1976 tri-hull project

Not a problem and thanks for asking.

I am having a complete hull restoration , which includes as follows removal of all rotted plywood and rotten stringers ( quite messy and a big task by itself), after the removal of all the rotten stuff, he reinforced the transom w/ new wood layered w/ fiberglass, construction for new floor, then laid new glass on the floor the textured mat kind. He constructed new bilge area and wrapped new glass around new stringers and laying entire new floor.

I have the before pictures, however he stated he is going to provide me with a disk that will show the process in stages, today is Wed, so by the end of the week Ill have new pictures to show once it is complete.

He is also doing some minor patch work on the cap (top of the boat) and on the nose near the open bow.

A real important note to make in considering this charge is I also requested my outdrive (Volvo pentad 280) be sealed and the impeller replaced for this season, the final bill for everything mentioned above is $2,500.00

In the big picture very reasonable as to get that outdrive sealed anywhere in Las Vegas is $400.00 - $500.00

Here are some new pics of the process. About 1/2 way done.

Reinforced transom new glass on the floor, constructed new stringers with solid wood drenched with resin rebuilt new bilge erea.

It is really starting too look nice, but more than that she will be solid again.

Yes I saw the pics. Looking good. I like the modern controls too. Looking forward to seeing how you put the dash together with all the new gauges.

Re: 1976 tri-hull project

Well that one is going to be tricky, as I cannot use the old dash panel for template becuase I have seven new guages and the old one only held four or five. Probably Ill just get some thin plywwod, cut my holes according to the guage size it will need, then to keep it looking clean either cover the plywood in gelcoat or fiberglass, just so it matches and works. I am open to any ideas though, please throw me a bone lol.

Hi there Meadfisher, Did you see what I did on my dash , they wernt really gauges holes more like switch hole , but if you had a jig saw you could cut out any size hole and plug it with wood then just marine tex over it and grind smooth !! I really like the way mine it turning out petty nice , Ok just a thought !!! John

Re: 1976 tri-hull project

The only problem is my dash already has a huge rectangle cut out of it, and the current guages rest in this piece of wood that screws down in that hole.

Here is a pic of what it looks like now.

You can make the gauge panel out of a 1/8" piece of aluminum and then paint to your liking once you have everything fitted. Either that or lay up a 1/4" piece of fiberglass, cut it down to size, fit the gauges and paint.

I had a 73 SeaSwirl with a messed up dash panel like yours and I was going to,,, lay 1/4" of fiberglass on the bottom side of brushed aluminum laminate and then weight it down with a battery so the panel was perfectly flat. But, I got rid of the boat.

yep thats a big hole , i would go this route !! either one will work, the aluminum would be less of a mess !! John

Re: 1976 tri-hull project

aluminum, I didnt think of that one, that wold probably come out nice and last a long time as-well.

Either one fo those ideas will work, have to see what is laying around as far as material, but even if I had to buy all the material new, it wouldnt be that expensive.

Really I just want it to work well, and if it looks nice that is a plus, at this point anything will be an improvement he~he

Thanks again guys for all the help, I really love this site*

Ya' cant beat it.

Re: 1976 tri-hull project--THE SAGA CONTINUES--

Today was Awesome, we knocked out the upholstery and filled the pinholes on the bottom, prepping for new gelcoat!

It is going to be very windy the next few days, until Sunday.

So I will focus on my school work, until then. My new gas tank should be out by Friday, keep ya; posted as the progress contines.

Also I added a bunch of new pictures to photobucket, that include the new upholstery, as-well as older pictures of the engine rebuild process.

Thanks for sticking around and viewing, while I bring this classic back to life.

One time, while asking for quote on some work, a gentlemen asked me, he said as follows, " Is it some sort of family erlume?", whithout batting an' eye I looked that idiot straight in the face and stated "Not yet!"~~~~LOL

Hope you enjoy all the new pictures???
