Re: 1976 viking Deckboat build
"Aftermarket Stringers" ???
speaking of stringers....anyone ever heard anything positive or negative about using t-rex boards (plastic composite decking boards) as stringers???
wonder how well epoxy and fiberglass would bond to them
I'd stay away from it. It's going to have a better chance of expanding and contracting within the fiberglass cocoon, not to mention it's going to be heavier than the wood that was in there.
Honestly, you'd be better off using a foam core encapsulated in fiberglass.
The purpose of the stringer material depends on what you plan to use the stringer material for. There are 3 possibilities...
If you don't plan on fully encapsulating the stringer in fiberglass, then you will want a stringer material that is going to give you the linear strength.
If you are going to encapsulate the stringer, then the core material doesn't matter if you build up the 'glass where IT is the strength of the stringer. Then the stringer material is only there as a mold for the new stringer.
If you are encapsulating the stringer with glass only to seal it from the elements, then you want a stronger material for the stringer.
