Ive looked at stores like menards, home depot, lowes.. no one has it in stock at least the r-7.5 you posted WM. If I order it I wont have it until like 5/26.. bit of a ways away.. any suggestions? or is there another thickness/option or something I can look into?

HD and Lowes should have 1, 1.5 or 2in readily available, Menards too, although I've never been in 1.

Might buy 2 different thickness, depending on exactly where you plan to put it.

2in is probably cheapest by the thickness/SqFt, but not by much. 2 layers of 1in would provide the same amount, but w twice as much cutting. .. .

Pink, blue or green. Just make sure its XPS (extruded polystyrene) not EPS (typical styro cooler/cup white beads, expanded polystyrene)

In my 16' Kingfisher I used 4.5 sheets of the .75 inch pink stuff. It was the only size available to me at the time. And my method uses a lot more but that extra becomes additional flotation if needed. Ya know? ;)

Good grief lol. Thats a lot of pink! I wouldnt be able to squeeze in that much. got gas tank, batteries, and livewell in the way. Ill try 4 sheets and see how that goes. and I dunno what in the world happened but I guess HD does have the 1.5 inch stuff thats 25$ a piece. So 100$ for it all doesnt seem too bad.

Last question on this.. I think.. Ive read around a little on how to cut it to size. I HATE foam.. the sound of it, the feeling when it makes that hideous squeeking sound lol. Any tips on how to hurry and cut this so I can get it over with? May just have the wife do it! She gets a kick out of it when I scream when styrofoam rubs together...

MY recent experience using 2", 1" and 3/4" is to skip on the 2" and stick with what can easily be cut with a utility knife. I ran the 2" through my table saw and it cut like butter, put man what a mess and only really ideal for long straight rips. Additionally, the 2" is only really useful in certain spaces and can be just as easily accommodated by doubling up the 1".

Ok thanks again this is all good info =D The wife is freaking out over having enough buoyancy seeing I added such a large livewell (30 gal lw, so if I was carrying 20 gal it would add about 200lbs. Anyways.. Im looking at different R values. Any idea if I look at like r10 or higher vs 7.5 would that add more buoyancy? Cant really find much info on that online. I told her it would be fine.. but sometimes you just gotta make the wife happy!

I grabbed a couple of sheets of the 1 1/2 inch pink stuff yesterday. I plan on trying to get the front completely done by this weekend. Will start sealing the front deck board..again tonight.

Im trying to get the gas tank finished up but the fuel spout on it is vertical. I know I read somewhere on these forums someone bought an angled fuel hose.. Anyone knows where that post was or where I can get an angled hose so I can attach it to my current fuel hose?

I see you got the bow deck fitted in, that 3/4" is pretty heavy stuff to cart in and out for the fitting process. I think my bow deck went in and out at least a dozen times

For the name change it helps to drop in a mods name to draw their attention jbcurt00

Thanks WM! And after I cut the holes for the hatches the board was fairly light. But I did have to take it out a few times to trim it up a bit. Having a 1 stall garage also made getting the deck in an out interesting.

Do you have any suggestions on what to use for my gas tank fill hole? Its vertical and I need a 90 degree angle so I can hook up my fuel line. The fitting on the tank is plastic so Im not sure if I can glue something to the gas tank fitting or what the best option is. Cant find any marine grade bent hose so Ill need a fitting of some sort.

Thank you JB youre the man!

Got some work done last night nothing too crazy. Waiting on parts still for gas tank and for epoxy to seal. Really trying to get the motor on by this weekend. Planning on getting the motor lift on after work if the epoxy is set on the..motor..support board lol or whatever you call it. the pic of that is freshly drilled holes on the old floor boards that I messed up a while back =) Saved me some time sealing so I just put one last coat on it last night to seal the holes up a bit. The other pic is of the boards with fresh epoxy.. put some plastic in the boat I kind of ran out of room with all of the foam in the garage..

I changed my mind about focusing on the front of the boat. Now going to the back, I want the motor on so I can bring her to the lake soon with the foam in and see if everything works properly and she floats right. After I bring her out for a short spin I want to lift the floors up and check for any leaks or fix/install anything that needs tending to. Ordering seat mounts and radio this weekend and after that I really think I finally have everything I need to finish this. At least I hope so!

you're really haulin' butt on this build! :thumb:

I see you're using epoxy... I strongly recommend reinforcing it with fiberglass cloth to avoid grain checking. It will crack right open and expose fresh wood to the elements.

The foam won't change buoyancy under normal operation (common misconception)...that's there to save your tail if your vessel is overcome with water.
