Well I probably went further than I needed to. I ended up dry sanding 320 then wet sanded with 400 and 600. Made sure all was feathered out for the resprays. Hopefully I can get to it this Sunday starting with some SE

Thanks for the encouragement guys.

Got an early start and began work at 7:45 AM. Wipe down followed by SE primer, alkyd primer then paint. Was ready for first spray of metal flake shortly after 1 and finished clear coat about 3:30. Admiral is happy with it and declared the painting done so I pulled all the masking before she could change her mind :D

Don't think I'll be tackling anything else today - I'm pooped.

Why a clearcoat? Heard its alot of trouble to maintain.

Just used Helmsman spar urethane for a clear. After speaking with a technician at Minwax a few months ago I experimented using it as a carrier for the flake then sprayed it clear over the top on 3 aluminum cans. About once a month since I've put them through a torture test. Twisting, crumpling etc. The only time I've had any fracture of the Helmsman was when a can tore. Thought it was worth a try. The tech said "it might just work". I like experimenting.

I'll be interested in hearing from you in a couple of years on durability etc... I TOO like to experiment and this is a NEW one for me!!! Mikely Likey!!!

should work fine, as long as urethane holds up and don't yellow on ya :)

That would be my biggest worry, but if it's stored inside or covered, I think you'll be ok? Very curious, as I want mine to be glossy AF when it's done.

Not a lot happening - I'm lucky if I have an hour to get anything done at night before it's too dark to work safely and it rained last night.

Been working at the store on a couple of wood pieces over the last 2 weeks. Wood power panel base is stained and coated with OTF. Should be able to apply the Helmsman Saturday.

Stained/sealed the front of the new oak dash yesterday and did the same to the backside today. Plan to start first of multiple coats of Helmsman on that tomorrow.

That'll look really sharp all glossy with the Helmsman, I used it on my mahogany pieces in the Chief and they came out super.

Got the raised deck and center support cut and fit tonight.

Also test fit the bilge cover I designed. Still have to make the aluminum supports for it.
