Mine were at 90 degrees. I had a small square that I used to make sure I was going straight. I was sitting on a stool when I did it....line drill up, check for square, drill in a little, check for square, drill a little more, check for square...you get the idea. Some of mine had to line up with stringer brackets on the inside so it was very important to get it right. I hit most dead on and the rest were very close.

I'm basically at the same point on my transom, and the way I look at is that the transom is not 90 degrees when it's on the boat due to the angle.

However, the bolts are 90 degrees to the wood itself or else they would not be flush when tightened. If you are drilling the holes with the wood in the boat they will be at a slight angle to the aluminum transom skin.

I can't wait until I'm done drilling holes, for some reason it stresses me out more than anything else on the boat.:eek:

Thank you dj and HA! Really helps out, it's what I thought but wanted to make sure. I was thinking about using a square if they were 90 degrees.

Just messed up my bow piece a bit. It's also stuck to the saw horses. I'm going to find a better way to make a jig and go at this tomorrow. I kinda jumped the gun, and drilled out holes before thinking and messed up a bit. I have rotated my other pieces and gave those sides another coat of epoxy. I'll get things worked out tomorrow.

Thanks again guys! :D

Ok let myself slow down and figure things out for that bow piece. If I knew what I was actually doing this would not be a big deal (but I don't :D). So I'm going to go fill up my holes with some epoxy. Let that dry, then come back, and make 3 new ones for some dowels. This time I will actually take my time . Then I'm going to put on a 2" or 3" backer to hold it all together, screw that on and cover it all with epoxy. May even leave a slight gap so I can fill it with epoxy.

Just thinking out loud guys.

Put down Gluvit again in the areas that need a tad more. So that's done I'm going to put in the stringers, and make sure that there aren't any rivets still in the ribs from the old deck. Just need one more coat on the bow piece, and one more side on another piece. For the bow piece I just ended up screwing a thing to it, and I'm going to fill the gap with epoxy.

So just need to cut some foam, and deck should be good to go in tomorrow! That is if everything works out. Then I might paint the transom tomorrow, and then maybe do a coat of epoxy to the deck once it's in.

Also need to place a couple orders for wire, led trailer lights, and a new trailer coupler. Will do that this weekend as well.

I need to get a lot done this weeknd again! Today is a day I would love to be out on the lake, but can't so I need to get it done :D.

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

Thanks Jas! I love this place for the motivation :D, but it also doesn't help me work on the boat...

Riveted in my stringers, and put the last coat of epoxy on the sides of the deck. I'm going to try to cut some foam tonight for under the deck :D. Then need to get the deck in somehow. I need to make a trip to HF for some more cheapie brushes, and Homie Depot for some sand for the deck, and some weed-n-seed (lawn is full of dandelions ). That'll be another project as well with taking the LED's off the house, ohh you say Christmas was months ago?

So all in all I need to get moving. Maybe paint the topsides this weekend, and transom. I should have my stripe printed out on paper next Monday, the plotter ran out of ink...

Happy Friday guys!

OK guys. Just went out and attempted the foam. How did you guys do it? I've got one 2" thick piece resting on the ribs inbewtween the stringers at the moment only thing is that leaves a ton of space below. I'm thinking I'm going to need a 1" board as well.

So question really is, is how did you cut up the foam board(if you used it) to fit everywhere, and how was your layout? I really just wanted to do it all in big chunks, but that might not give me enough flotation? I'm sorta confused, and I want to get the deck down today.

This is what I have so far today... I should have the deck in by now, but this foam just has me thinking too much. I have it all the way up to the bow now. But this is still a pretty sad showing...

Is this going to cut it? Should I add some smaller pieces under the ones in-bewtween the stringers? Also what should I do about the sides? Maybe cut it up into smaller strips? I don't know why I can't think right today. Just need some opinions. I thought this wouldn't be too hard, and had an idea of it in my head...

Looks good so far, don't stress about it. Just fit as much as you can and you will be fine.:)

I added some noodles on the outer edges and with my ski locker being open I don't have as much as some folks. I have enough to float the boat and that's all that matters.

Keep in mind that gas tanks, life jackets, and coolers will all provide additional buoyancy if you get swamped, as long as they are held down in some fashion. Do you have foam boards behind your side panels too? That's my plan when I replace mine.

OK Thanks Huron! I really have no idea why I'm so stressed out about this foam... Ohh well I think I've got it figured out.

My side panels didn't have foam behind them. I may think about it, but that will really depend on if I have much foam left over.

Thanks for posting the picture WNG! I was trying to look for some... Yet, as always when you look for something you can never find it.

I think putting some behind the side panels is a great idea. I may stuff some noodles behind mine at some point.

I guess it isn't much of a bad idea. Just will depend on if I go with speakers in them or not. I'll just have to leave a bit of room for them. I've just been thinking a cheap boom box, but I kinda want a finished look for it...

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

So much for the nice weather  It's a really crappy day... So far today my rivet gun has broke, and my caulking gun doesn't work. I'm about to call it a day right now. I may go back out and work. I don't know, really don't want to mess anything else up.

Also what's worrying me now is that the deck is going to squeak every time because of the foam underneath. Any suggestions? I wonder if the squeaks will go away if I get it down good enough...

I know how ya feel BG, I have days like that and I am not against taking a break now and again to clear my head:)

As far as squeaking, I had concerns as well. My theory was that if the pink boards are laying so that they are 1/8"-1/4" higher than the stringers...when the deck compresses them down there will be no wiggling or squeaking of any sort.

So far that has worked very well and I have zero squeaks no matter where you step, or how heavy you may be. Also the pool noodles don't squeak at all, and I used quite a few of them with the foam.:)

Gotta hate days like that, sometimes it makes you wonder why you even got out of bed. But your making forward progress on the boat and thats all that matters.

Exactly what I was sorta thinking. Glad to hear yours aren't squeaking! I'm just going to add a bit more on the sides of the stringers so that it will all compress down. Thanks Huron!

Yeah they suck! So does the weather around here right now, I always seem way more productive on days that I want to take the boat out. Some forward progress is good I guess, heck I didn't have foam in when I started... Thanks Glen!
