Here are some updated pics of work so far. The bulkheads were bed in hull and deck then glassed in with two layers of csm and 18 oz woven then another layer of csm to make finishing easier. the templates for the stringers have been made and will cut them today and install in pm tomarrow!

Its not fast progress but its progress! LOL

Re: 1978 Century 4000 resto

Its been awhile since ive had time to update what has been done. Work and all has slowed down the progress of where i had hoped to be by now.

Hopefully within the next couple weeks will have more time to get more done lol.

more pics

ok just a quick update... got the stringers and bulkheads in to the engine beds and glassed. Time to start the floor flanges and remove the engine. For those who wonder why i havent removed the engine yet, its because i had torn so much of the boat apart i didnt want to trailer it to my buddy's garage where i am going to pull it till i had some support back in the hull.

The weather in maine has been hot the past couple of weeks so the only time i can glass in the green house i built is in the am and at dusk. Getting there though!

Once i get the basics done, the interior of the cabin will be done in varnished doug fir, including the ceiling with panels. the cockpit will be done in a compination of sapeli (mahogany) and teak veneers laminated on maranti marine ply. The cockpit floor will be awlgrip with non skid when the boat is painted and the teak swim platform will be entirely remade. The real thing slowing me down is over building the damn thing. all the stringers and bulkheads are taped in with a 1.5csm and 24 oz woven then completely laminted with another 1.5 cem and 2 18 oz wovens on both sides. there are bulkheads no more than every 26 inched apart and i have added 1 layer csm and 2 18 oz woven fron the water line down. She might qualify for ice breaking this winter lol. and thanks for the encouragement!

Re: 1978 Century 4000 resto

I just found this thread and would love to see the finished Boat and ask some questions about the Transom repair.

Is anyone still following this thread?

I have an 81 Century 4000 that is in the need of some TLC.
Thanks
Ken

I started picking at my 78 century 4000 and discovered a little more rot. After a couple hours "picking" i now have a gutted interior. I too, would like to see some further progress on rngales's boat.
