Today was launch day Part Deux. The 650 ran great. After doing the fogging thing and changing plugs, she ran quite nice. The only problem I had was at a certain rpm, the motor would bog down. I just had to push the control a little bit and it ran great. At WOT she purred like a kitten. It starts right up, idles okay, just a little rough but it never quit running. Except at that certain rpm range. I'm very happy. Does anyone have any idea why it would bog down briefly at a certain rpm?

I'm trying to post videos here. What am I missing? Things have changed.

I love the sound of a Merc outboard and the smell of that 2 stroke oil burning, nothing like it. The first boat that I can remember my dad having was an early 60's model 16 foot Thunderbird Cathedral hull with a Merc outboard (I think it was a 65hp) back in the late 60's when we lived in Puerto Rico. Great job TC, now you don't have to sit there and do varoom varoom sounds anymore :D

Hey guys, thanks for all the warm and fuzzy's. So much appreciated. It's been a long haul with this boat. Three years. But now I feel good that she is running at 95%. I just need to get that little bog down out of it and I will be a happy camper.

I too just found this thread. I have a '79 MFG Morrison that I'm fairly certain needs to be torn down and reconstructed. Interestingly enough as I read through the pages I found that you are from Nova Scotia. My dad was born there and my Aunt still lives there. We meet up in Maine every summer where my other Aunt has a cottage on the lake. One of my other cousins who unfortunately passed away was trying to restore a small lake boat that his father and my grandfather had built back in the 1960's. It was a Sears & Roebuck catalog kit boat. He found a vintage motor, gas tank, the whole 9. He wanted to totally restore it but never had the chance. Alas now the boat is not in our possession. But we always spoke of my MFG and how I should fix it up to what it once was. This thread hopefully will help me with that along with a host of others I've found. I'm not the most mechanically inclined where carpentry is concerned so I'm a lot nervous. But it's something I want to do and I'll not stop till I do it.

Enjoy the summer!

Hey BK, thanks for dropping by. It's cool that your family keeps in touch. Maine is a beautiful state, we try to get there as often as we can. Bangor is a great shopping city with great restaurants. What size MFG do you have. I know the Morrison comes in different lengths. Feel free to post a couple of pics here.

As far as carpentry skills, don't worry too much. I have none, seriously. But with help of other fellow boaters on here, it will make that task that much easier. I could not have even tempted mine without these guys.
