Thanks Mike. It's good to be back at it. It's really the first day that the weather was nice. What about you? Get out at all?

I HAD a plan but...We've had a MONSOON in Okie Land and My yard work has been on hold due to wetness. My riding mower needed some attention sooo I decided to take a quick moment and get it "Tuned Up", mow the yard on Friday and then take the BF toe the Lake on Saturday...BAD IDEA. I bought a new Battery and unbeknownst to me they reversed the posts on the new battery and... you guessed it I installed it backwards and FRIED the electrical system on my Mower!!!!:mad: I keep telling everyone I'm an OLD DUMB OKIE!!!!

The entire weekend was spent chasing down the electrical system schematics and tearing down the mower to get at them and then using the Multimeter to test them for damage. Husqvarna did NOT make it easy!!! I was able to discover the rectifier/regulator was the issue and get one ordered and scheduled for delivery on Wednesday. Barring any other ISSUES I WILL get the BF in the Lake this coming Saturday. Hopefully she'll perform as well as yours did!!!!;)
I was happy to see someone having fun!!!:D

My boat is a 20' with a cuddy cabin and an outboard. It had a 175hp Evinrude on it which was dead. I put an '85 Yamaha on it, 200hp. The boat hauls butt no problem but it is in dire need of an overhaul.

I have to get some pictures of it and put them up.

TC! I just got caught up on your post! Great Job!

P.S. I've been grillin', and smokin' and BBQing between the rain drops. Can't work on the boat at home...no compressor so if I do it would be all corded and you know what they say about water and electricity, or is it blood? I never can remember!

So the old Gypsy keeps on keeping on. I've had it out a half dozen times and overall it has worked okay. Over the winter I will have to do some wiring. I want to move the batteries up to the front to distribute the weight a bit. I also have to decide what to do about a motor. And I have to do something with the trailer. The rollers are very noisy, so I may have to replace them.

I went out this week a picked up a little 5hp Gale Buccaneer. It's a 1959 model and runs good. I don't know why I do such things. lol. I figured my 12hp needed a friend.

I hope everyone's summer was great. It's coming to a close here now. Starting to cool off.

I hope no one gets offended if I don't respond to posts or comments that I share. I don't get email notifications anymore, so its sometimes hard to keep up. I do come on everyone once in a while to catch up.

Nice old motor TC ! Glad you were able to get some use out of the boat before winter sets in ... I have not used mine as much as I would have liked this year either ... With all my other projects and work it's hard to find the time sometimes ... Good thing is it's always boating season down here .. :joyous:

This is a good topic and a very nice boat now.
I like mercs, but to be honest the older ones were gutless unless modified.
you have the merc triple 650 then what you want is a prop that is just not good enough on the hole shot then vent it.
yes vent the prop even the alloy ones work good for the holeshot and allow you to have a larger pitch for top end.
this will be like dropping down a couple of inches until your on plane, then it will act like it is not vented and give better top end.

here is a pic of a prop I done of my merc 1991 merc 60 prop, it was a bit too big for holeshot until I vented it,!!!!! then it was great all rounder..
by the way its just a alloy prop, and I was in the middle of stripping the paint to make it nice again.
this works fantastic, and just 3/8ths hole size.

Do the vents let let water in or exhaust out? Why does this give more top end, but less low end, if I am hearing you "prop"erly no pun intended?

This is very interesting phil. Does this hurt the engine at all, as far as RPM's and such.

Good morning Tallcanadian,
Just wanting to let you know I spent the last 3 hours viewing your rebuild and congratulate you on a job well done!
I have a 15' Gypsy with a 75hp Johnson Stinger on it that been sitting in the backyard for the past 3 years, trying to decide if I want/able to do a rebuild on. Your thread is very encouraging and I did get a lot of tips about what I would run into if I get involved, Thanks for sharing!

Hi John

Thanks for the kind words. I couldn't have done all this without the help and advice of these fine iboats members. The thought of rebuilding can seem overwhelming but the end result is worth the work and worry. You will have a boat that will outlast you. I bet that 75hp Stinger pushes that beauty along just fine. Do you have any pics you can share? If I can help you in anyway let me know.

Tallcanadian, yes I realize you did receive a lot of help from the member here and I do appreciate all of that, saved a lot of useful info from them too.
As for pictures, I wouldn't want to show it at this time for sure, loaded with garden tomato cages etc, even has a tree started in it, was covered for awhile but that deteriorated and I have not given tlc. motor is still covered and was winterized. Yes that 75 pushes pretty good, last time out 4 grown grandkids and myself I was very happy.
Here is a pic from Fiberglassics web site gallery of what it should look like!
Old man would have a heart attack for sure if I had anything like that for a ride!
