I've got a 1979 Evinrude, 75 HP, model 75943R, serial No. J0001976. This came on my first/current boat, and I learned the hard lesson that tilt arms are not meant for trailering. Anyway, one tilt arm broke, and the bolt hole for the starboard tilt arm broke out too. Is there any way to repair this? Or would I be better off finding a used swivel bracket and take it from there? Also, it appears there are two different part numbers for the swivel bracket, depending on if you have a 15" transom or a 20" transom. I have a 20" transom, but I think I've got a 15" swivel bracket. Does this look correct?swivel bracket.jpg

Wow, I have never seen such breakage. Are we to assume the transom saver was not in use at the time? I would guess it was backed into something (no transom saver). OR, it suffered a rear end collision on the road. Anyhoo, I don't think you have a 15" bracket.

Correct assumption, no transom saver was used then, just the tilt arms. I drove over a small but rough bridge in town and heard when it broke bouncing on that bridge. Transom saver has been used since.

As an additional safety feature, you might use a 2 by 4 or dowel between the motor leg and the transom bracket. Rig a rope or tie down to keep it in place.

Not in Canada, but pretty close. North Dakota :D How are the brackets measured? Is the bracket the same size for a 15" transom and a 20" transom? I would think so, but it appears they have separate part numbers.

Just accept the fact that you have a 20" midsection and all the 20" midsection parts.-----There are lots of these brackets available used if you know how to look.-----Repeat you are looking for the 20" bracket to replace your broken one.

The 15" is a totally different midsection.----A totally different lower unit ( 50 hp ) meant for light fast boats.---That is why there are different part numbers.----Your is a 20" midsection.

Thanks all. Does anyone know the difference between the part numbers shown here, other than cost?
