Hello. I am new to this forum but I have been following along for a while. I recently picked up a very good priced Peterborough tri-hull with an 85hp Evinrude Engine. The seller showed me the engine running well, everything to do with the motor and controls was in very good working order. The only issue was that it needed a new ignition switch. I purchased a new one from the marina (Sierra Brand) and the guy at the marina told me it was pretty much plug and play.
I got home, changed it out and to be honest I did struggle trying to figure out what went where. It was not an exact match. I double check that is was the correct one for the boat and it is, but now I have an issue.
Here is what is happening:
When I turn the key to the ON position, nothing happens. When I push it in for the Choke, it runs the starter and the engine starts up. When I let go from what should be the choke the engine will stay running. When it is running now though it smokes like crazy, way more than normal. If I turn the key to what should be the start position, the buzzer goes off, regardless if the engine is running or not. Also, now the tach doesn't work. (It did before)
I'm really hoping I just put one of the wires in the wrong spot and it is a simple fix. I have attached pictures of the back of the old ignition and the wiring diagram for the new one.
Thank you all for your help!
