I am trying to find the Right Position to put my reverse cam in. I fell out when I removed the Lower Unit to install a Water Pump and Impeller. Man this is Driving me CRAZY.

Combined your posts.

Did the upper or lower cam fall out?

The upper cam fits in the midsection and only fits one way. Slather it with marine grease and slip it into the matching slot in the midsection.

The lower cam fits over the splines on the lower shift shaft. Put the lower unit in forward and the flat on the cam should face forward.

You should be able to tell which way the prop turns forward by looking at the prop blades,

It didn't come out. The hooks latch on the tilt pin and spring is up there.

OK I see the Spring,so maybe the TILT PIN has to be in place for the Controls to Work??? I have not had the Tilt Pin in when I was trying to get the Motor in F-N-R . It seems like the Tilt Pin Goes in the 2 Hooks with the Spring on it.

Does the motor need to be down with the tilt pin locked into to 2 hooks with the spring for the F-N-R to work ??

do not forget!!! you should not attempt shifting unless the engine is running OR you manually rotate the prop while shifting...

Tilt pin has nothing to do with shifting.

What is happening when you shift other than not going into reverse?

GA_Boater ,I can only get Reverse . It seems like the Cam needs a Spring to help Push it back to Forward or something.

This is what y Cam looks like. All of the Replacements I have seen have more Material to the left of the line that I drew on it. This thing did work PERFECTLY before I Dropped the LU to instal a new Impeller.
