Re: 1979 Sea Nymph FM 161 resto

My SN didn't have a bilge pump either so I installed one and put in a through the hull fitting on the side of the stern. I didn't put it on the starboard side though so I could see it discharge because all of my electrical and battery is on that side. Didn't think it was a good idea just in case the hose / fitting failed.

After all of my hull work during the resto the bilge pump had become one of the least used things in the boat unlike before when it was essential to stay afloat.

Here is a pic of my through the hull fitting, it's about a foot above the water line. On the inside for the tubing I used the soft flexible black rubber that looks like radiator hose.

Well that last post was a bit embarrassing. I was not very clear and meant to say since there is no thru hull for the bilge was curious on thoughts of just dumping it onto the splashwell.....Oh well, I'll strive to be clearererer.

PO was creative and screwed a cable tie into top of transom and just clamped the bilge line there....a real beauty but at this point should not be surprised.

So took the bunks off and rotated them. New fasteners and cleaned up / painted hardware. Worked out well.

My vote is to use a hole cutter in the side of the hull like I did in my SN and put in a through the hull fitting. I don't think the splashwell is a good place to pump water, could be a disaster if you take a wave over the stern with it's full already and trying to drain.

My resto buddy has a set of these hole punches. Makes a super clean knock out for wiring and fittings.

Edit: Saw you last pic of the transom, looks great, fit's like a glove, awesome cap! Your missing the drain tube and motor mount holes. I assume your going to drill them out now after the install.

Pretty wild going through the new engine checklist with the tech at dealer. Aint technology grand, as long as it works !

You can completely winterize this thing by basically pushing 2 buttons. 3 yr no maint required and got a 6 yr warranty to boot.

Got out of synch here but while boat was at dealer got out the original OMC 12/24 volt TM and gave it a test.

Oldie and hopefully still a goody. Ran OK during test so will slap her on and see how she goes.

Since changing this to a tiller I wanted the eng on to resolve where to locate Capn seat. With the aid of my retired assistant we found the basic green lawn chair with arm rests seems to be just the right ticket.

And since that worked out so well, the mid salon lounge seems to be a big hit.

I must have worked him too hard as that expression is just not getting it.

Oh well......progress of sorts.

Was doing a bit of misc. clean up in hull and good grief the up close and personal view of 2 ribs showed some hairline cracking. Very similar to H2o situation but just didnt get down into the feet of the hat channel.

The close up pics didnt come out well so here is the general pic.

I was sure had found all the cracks but if any surfers cruise through spend some time looking your hull over while it is clean and bare.

I had to make up a support for underneath one of the deck sections and remembered seeing how Woodson or Dr of Yachts showed how to do both sides at same time. I wasnt confident enough to try it on larger deck sections but sure worked well for this smaller piece.

Basically some screws or nails through a piece so your work item stays elevated.

Pic may not be that clear but note space between boards.

That worked well. 3 coats on each side and 6 on sides / ends in a very short time.

Also had my first mix flash off after first coat went on. Interesting, could figure out why the brush kept bouncing off the epoxy, but then the smoke and heat gave me a further clue.

I just cant comprehend working on a glasser but they sure have my respect.

Having a get together this weekend to install, floatation, decking, side compartments and splashwell.

We are getting there.

As long as this type of stuff stays at bay, but the weather this year has been a real experience for everyone.

Just a small hail storm:

I managed to zoom your shot and can see the cracks clearly. The feet may not be cracked, but the backbones are. I'd do some reinforcement while it's opened up, a stitch just in time. - Grandad

Lots of things to look at here, first let me get the words out that come to mind... wow!, nice!, LOL!, aww, hail! neat! rib, cracked!

Resto buddies are hard to find, even harder to keep motivated. Mine really likes that I keep a bottle of Jeager in the garage freezer for restoration purposes. At the end of every day we work on the boat, I pour us a shot to toast the boat and the days labor.

The pic in post 191, makes me think your ready to splash the SN. Fantastic work SG, can't wait to see the finished beauty skimming the lake!

H2o

The more I learn about your resto crew the more I want to invest in this upcoming LLC.

Jeager is the weakness eh, my guy is stuck on Canada's best, Crown and Molson.

With his photobombing and just one single post just thinking you should get a pic of him, post and make him famous.

Wow: You have made a ton of progress! I love the new E-Tec Power (color me jealous!!!).

Also, this is back-yard boat building SG (we of the DIY order, Back-Yard Boat Building Chapter are going to have to give you 1 demerit for use of a plasma cutter); it's just not fair for the rest of us hacks who cut our metal with stuff like jig saws and angle grinders...

All kidding aside - great job! I think the layout is going to perfect and that new motor is going to be reliable and perfect!!!

Criminently,

A full demerit ?

The B-Y.B.B.Chap. is well known and I am not sure if filing an appeal is the correct thing to do.

I can offer some evidence in attempting to reduce this severe fine:

Only happened with Stainless
No table, chop or radial arm saws on premises. All hand tools.
My compressor puts out 1/2 gal per hour.

These hands are not from a plasma table:

These pieces are hand cut and obviously so:

Guess I should be looking for a competent:

Counsellor, Esquire, Mouthpiece, Barrister, Advocate, fixer, Dutch Uncle, Solicitor, Shyster.

Perhaps a good one could get maybe a 1/2 demerit ?

By the way, do you serve on the Board of the B-Y,B.B.Chap. ?

Any chance you are available now that your splash is imminent ?

(my sincere apologies to Train for ripping the hand shot but was getting a bit desperate. was hoping it was OK as a fellow Nympher)

I fall on the mercy of the tribunal ....:tsk:
