Anybody know what the deal is here. I prime the motor with the squeeze balb it holds pressure. Start the motor, Runs great (30-40) seconds Then motor runs dry, you can watch the gas get sucked thru the line, and the engine dies. (Runs out of gas) It had a Fuel pump Diaphragm (it's a round cylinder with 3 ports on it, In, out, and Engine Vacuum) I'm pretty sure this is the problem. Can anyone verify that for me. Does this sound like the issue?

I have never seen a pump like that but it won't be that hard to find a aftermarket 2 cycle pulse pump...try mikuni, as for the mist thats the norm on the air/water cooled type engine...however I would replace that impeller if it was a new to me outboard

Re: 1979 SeaKing 9HP K900 Won't hold Fuel pressure

Thanks for the help...I was able to order both the impeller and the Fuel pump Diaphragm from that place in Michigan (Discount Marine parts 906-466-2180) Very nice people. Just like the picture i showed. I hope that cures the fuel pressure issue....So here's my next question...

How do I disconnect the shift linkage and drop the lower unit. I removed the 2 bolt from the lower unit but it's stuck in the housing. I assume there is a way to disconnect the shift linkage without removing the power head. There is no access door or additional access that I can see. Any Ideas? Here are some more pics of what I have.

I circled the bolt and nut to remove, there should be an inspection plate on the other side of the leg to disconnect the shift linkageView attachment 148078

Thanks Mr Crabs I'll look tonight.... If this is a Air cooled engine.... Why does it need a impeller? Isn't the sole reason for a impeller to cool the engine? Where is the impeller located in this type of engine?

I guess the best way to describe it is "Hybred" the water pump takes care of the lower crank bearing and area's of the lower cylinder were its not possible to have cooling vains.

Where is the impeller located in this type of engine?
just follow the drive shaft down down and be careful with the water tube ...the pump housing is a obvious item of 2 pieces usally held by 2 long screws....give them a shot of PB blaster or deep creep oil before removal, replaceing any seals you find is good form.

I think this is a fair comparison? Here is a 1976 Clinton 7.5 HP I found off Ebay. I assume the 2 are constructed the same way. If I'm seeing this correctly it looks like the lower unit should just pull out without undoing any additional collars or set screws. Take a look at this pic and let me know if you agree. I don't have a manual so I'm trying to understand how this comes apart so i don't damage it. Also I put a question mark behind the words... can you verify I'm identifying these parts correctly. 1 more thing I don't see a shift linkage. Is this thing shifted up top?

Yes they'er similar, yours is a bigger gear box most likely has reverse?, models with reverse will have a shift lever rod to un hook/bolt

Re: 1979 SeaKing 9HP K900 Won't hold Fuel pressure

Well, Back again..... I looked for a hour last night for some kind of access door or anything that would let me disconnect that shift linkage.... I took some more pice of the other side of the engine. I'm at a total loss here. There must be some kind of trick or way to unhook this thing. I unbolted the lower and it will slide out almost 1" it slides a little bit further if you shift it into reverse. But, that's it. I didn't want to pry it out or damage it, so i put it back toghether. Any ideas?

Re: 1979 SeaKing 9HP K900 Won't hold Fuel pressure

Well sir.... back again.... I got my parts from Discount marine parts yesterday. I installed the fuel pump and that worked great. I decided to hold up on the impeller change since it had a fair amount and mist coming out of the (pee hole) So i took it to a small lake yesterday to see how she would perform.... Started it up backed it out... got past the last no wake buoy and told my son to HOLD ON!!... cranked it to full and got my GPS out. Now, I have a 12 foot aluminum row boat, I weight 200 lbs and my son weighs about 60 lbs. It got us up to a blistering 5MPH it sounded like it wanted to go faster because it wasn't real smooth. Now i haven't done anything else to this motor (like clean the carb and god knows how long it sat in someones garage) But, I'm thinking something is wrong with the fast idle circuit? I don't know... All I can tell you is I was so disappointed yesterday I wanted to use it as a anchor... My son was saying... geez dad,,, i thought this was going to be faster then your old scott atwater... Well, it should have been.... the 1953 Scott atwater 5hp i had pushed us to 7MPH. Mr Crabs.... do you have any ideas other then sell both of them and get a johnson or Merc?

I guess a good complete tune up before you give up....anyway you wouldn't want to sell it running like crap and then what would you do with a merc or J/E if it starts runnig like junk? and they will.

I have a youtube channel with some video's of my Grandson's little 7.5 Eska pushing my fat butt (247LB) with a 12ft Sea king, maybe that would give you some idea of what your up against and also consider that your outboard has alot more heft to it than a Eska clutch shift model and you have 9hp....But I wonder what the Max operating RPM is for your outbaord??? 7.5 Eska is 5650 rpm.

http://youtu.be/3SbStxqaVXA 14ft jon

http://youtu.be/oBG5rr32jlE 12 sea king

http://youtu.be/vZQYuByE5_I 14ft jon and 15hp Eska gamefisher...Its really hard to beat the power to weight ratio of the twin cylinder Eska when your boating on the cheap...LOL is there really a cheap way to boat?

the 14 jon seems to run faster than the sea king, I'm guessing but I would say 5-7 mph with the 7.5 single cylinder, now here is the good part 1 hr @ WOT for my 70hp Johnson 7-8 gal of fuel (30$), 1hr for my Eska about 2-3 qt's

Re: 1979 SeaKing 9HP K900 Won't hold Fuel pressure

I saw your video and that's what i'm talking about.... I'd be thrilled with that type of performance. I pull the carb off tonight and go thru it. Maybe that will help. other then that i'm not sure what else i can do....

Do you know what kind of ignition Solid State or points and condenser, maybe it says on the cowl cause I just had a memory flash and I hope you don't have the SSI model... this could be a simple as cleaning and gapping the points and make sure you have the right plug and gap and carb sync... or if its Clinton's version of Solid State CDI then sell it on ebay as quick as you can and buy the johnny evilrod or you can start banging your head aginst the wall and join the great experiment at the Eska yahoo group,

We have a Clinton SSI engine post around here someplace...haven't heard anything from him after he smashed it open

Frankly you really really need a 1979 seaking 9HP K900 service manual.
