I really like the hull of this rig, but much work needs to be done...
Deep and sturdy. Ya, that will get me where I want to go!

I'm willing and able, but need some direction.
This will be the first of many other posts as I work through my project.

I'm currently working on replacing the windshield which leads into cleaning up the deck and re-painting...
If re-painting, then what did the Holiday look like when new?

The original color seems to be blue, but I do like the green it's been painted.
It's the basic scheme or look of the boat I'm after.

Anyone have pic's or brochures of the original style of the boat?

The console is next.
It seems to have been re-build and way too low (or what I call flat).
A pic of an original dash would be awesome.
I figure to tear out the existing and build a tilted one, add the gauges it should have and have something comfortable to use.

Then, of course, the deck... ya, rotted like most older boats.... plywood... yuck...
We'll get to this question later....

Hope to find some folks to help me.
Thank for at least reading!

Happy 4th to all!!

Welcome Old dawg!
NICE, we need more Holidays around here!
There are a ton of Holiday restorations in various stages.
You can learn a lot from others that have bleed what you are about to bleed.

As far as brochures?? Well..Our buddy Huron Angler has compiled a nice thread in the Starcraft section with a ton of brochures if you want to get her back to OG

And yes, we love pictures!

Re: 1979 Starcraft Holiday

Thank you to all!

bananaboater, WOW, what a restoration!
If I can even come close, I'll be very happy.

I see in everyone's pics that the dash is slanted.
This is what I wish to do with mine and really like what I see you guys did.
Currently, it's flat and vertical.. very uncomfortable and didn't believe that was original..

I was hoping to use something like the 'Trex' type plastic wood.
Hope to do this restore with material I don't have to deal with again.
Have any of you used the 'faux' wood product?
Curious if it will hold up to UV rays..

Also thought of using it for the floor boards..

Here's a couple of pics of the new shield in progress.

Forming the channels was tough and failed twice on the top one before reverting to the 'faux' wood.
Was very surprised to find that I could form the 'faux' wood.

Almost done re-painting the deck, then comes mounting the channels and making the actual shield...

Welcome Olddawg, good looking ride ya got!
That composite wood holds up pretty good UV-wise, but is too weak imo for decking and heavy to boot...my deck came with half inch ply for decking{either factory or previous owner}, I replaced with 3/4 inch and... much happier..I used 5/8th's on my old Imperial which felt good underneath, that is until I felt the 3/4{I'm a big ol boy btw}. Stick with standard exterior ply, resin coated and covered with your choice of topping :D Enjoy!!!

Here's the new!

Bit of an improvement, yeh!
Not bad for a 'cadet' if I have to say so myself...

I've never annealed aluminum before and didn't think I could form this faux wood, but it worked!!!
Deck painting came out okay, trust me, the pic makes it look much better.

1/8" paulsum (lexan type material, but cheaper and UV rated).
Polished aluminum bottom trim (failed twice making the top in aluminum)
Faux wood top trim (from your local depot building supply)

Enjoy the 4th 'all'!

Our BBQ was yesterday and the golf tournament is tomorrow (benefits a good friend's dad, can't think of a better way to spend the day).

Good work on the new windshield. Looks like the simple bend worked out well.
