Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Hey, thanks for swinging through fellas:joyous:

So yah, on the Islander - I do believe this Sea Nymph will be a much better option for the HH trip. I won't be looking to venture off shore and only be thinking near shore on flat calm days. I'm planning to stick to the lagoons, flats, rivers, marshes n' such. I think this SN would be a northerners version of a southern guys "flats" boat so we'll run er:D

Man, four months till this trip happens. Ugh, that seems soooooo far away!:blue:

I was originally planning to pull the SN out of the garage, wrap her up and push her into the wood for the winter to get the Islander in. I think now I'll operate like I did with the Jet Star/Islander, side by side. Because the SN is wider than the Jet Star it'll be a little tighter getting them both in, but I know I can pull it off. I have a little bit of garage overhaul to do (giant mess) but I think I may try to get them both in this weekend.

All right, the short list for SN project completion:

1. Finish the stern bench/deck

2. Install pedestal seats on bow and stern deck

3. Snap in carpet

4. Electronics (GPS/FF, VHF)

5. Install console shelves

6. Little punch list stuff like install mounts for nav. lights, fire extinguisher, yada

7. Possible carb job on the engine

Not a bad list at all. I feel like the crux would be the electronics due to $$$. I am on a seriously tight budget these days. I'll get it figured;)

Have a great weekend guys!:D

OK friends, it's been a rough couple of weeks (I'll spare the details).

I do have a super high point I'd like to share with my buds on iboats though, check it out...

So our Father has decided to bless our whole family with an Easter Break trip. He's handling the whole thing, condo, food, the whole bit, for my family and my bros family, and my other bro! Where? Hilton Head Island, totally awesome! This is going to be a sweet family trip!

Now, he was originally going to pick up the flight tab for all of us too. We checked on pricing, yikes! Yah, we won't be transported via air, bummer. So, sixteen hours in a vehicle with three little ones, oh boy.

Now, how about the vehicle choice? Super good on gas Honda Civic? Or, how about, maybe, just maybe a Yukon XL with carpy mpg? Well, that also happens to have a hitch on it:D

HHHHaaahahahahahahhhaha, woooooohhhhhoooooooo!!!!!

Gents, I do believe this here Sea Nymph will journey with us down to the south land for some island/ocean fishing!!!:joyous:

I popped on youtube for some inspiration...

Sooooooo.....

I'm thinking about my punch list for this boat - what I had in mind before I wrap her up for the winter has changed just a little bit. I'll have to think that stuff through and post up later.

Cheers guys!

Just be careful if your stuck fishing off of the dock on a rain day!

Yippie

Inland waterway fishing can still be exciting.... :fish2:

We didn't catch anything nearly that interesting while fishing & kayaking north of Myrtle Beach this past Sept....

Funny you popped that up Buckeye, check it out: This morning I told the boys that we might be able to catch a shark on our HH fishing trip.

Ryan's eyes bugged right out of his head:wacko::jaw:

...and Ethan just started hollaring and ran away:bolt:

OK, I know I am still four months away but I'm so excited I had to get something done. So, I bought my SC non resident fishing license today! Printed it off and have it in my paw right here:fish2:

Yep ya see all kinds of critters up in the salt marshes down here too . Sharks , gators ,manatee,s ,tarpin . Porpoises all over feeding . They do a good job scaring the fish away ..
The HH trip sounds like a blast !

Wouldnt worry too much Jas.....you are far more likely to run into Jaws in coastal areas around Oz or South Africa......especially this time of year.

Yep ^^^, in late Sept, dolphins were schooling just off shore of southern NC, mullet & drum. Then 2 sharks washed up in 5 days. Not as nearly as big as Mary Lee, but 1 was a hammerhead, and that was interesting.

Hey Jas, if there is a marine aquarium close, I highly recommend it while you're in SC. Particularly one with a touch tank & a feeding tank. Touching shark skin up close, even on a dead hammerhead is unbelievable to many adults, kids tend to flip out...

No, not live fish being fed to a shark.... Ya sickos, chopped or frozen fish fed to larger fish & crabs.

There's a reason some Samurai swords used shark or ray skin grips :) It's crazy how smooth it feels 1 way, and not the other...

Reality may actually be something different! See the link below about Great Whites:

The third pass? Great white shark Mary Lee might be on her way back to Lowcountry – The Post and Courier

But most likely not.....they can be found in temperate waters of every ocean, even known to frequent the Mediterrean Sea.....although most of the research on them is actually done on the population off the coast of South Africa (specifically Dyer Island) because of the higher concentration in numbers.

Sometimes I pretend I'm a shark and munch on kids right here in the temperate waters of my living room. It's scary, trust me!

Yeah four months is a long way away. Now if there was only a world class fishery that was loaded with walleye close to you that you could put the SN in until then...Let's just say it was really slow and I still pulled dinner out of the ole river.

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

I heard they were hammerin them in the river. I'd get out there but with the stern bench only 1/2 done the boat is in sort of a not so usable state. Rats!:grumpy:

I feel you're pain Broham. The smallies are on fire here in LSC and I'm with 2 boats and neither is seaworthy at the moment. Oh yea the 50" muskie are active and walleyes are going big, big old yellow perch....

Next year will be our year Jas. The Sea Nymphs will be fishing and the I/O Starcrafts will be splashed.
