Just a heads up...they are starting to get som FALLEYES! (thats fall walleye). I just hauled my salmon boat home last weekend and slowed down a little going over Sanford lake just to make sure I didn't see a white blur flying by. I'm ready for a break from fishing for a few weeks especially with school starting and wrangling kiddos all day. Looks awesome...can't wait to see the islander back in action.

The important thing is swooshed or swoosh-less, the ice cream was good.

Yah baby, Ice Cream and boating:D

Thanks man! I get comments everywhere I go. The last fella I bumped into at the gas station said:

"Did you just buy that new? Whadga pay for it?"

Thanks decker! These last few build ins should dress her up nicely:D

Thanks maddie! Yah, I have done a little work on the mount set up for my trolling motor. Once that is set I'll feel a whole lot better about hitting the river and the bay for that action:cool:

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

OK, so morning progress, hatch latches. I was using tabs of duck tape to get in the hatches, prolly about time for an upgrade.

I decided to keep those sweet SouthCo latches for the Islander and instead go with something a little more simplistic. So I eBayed these lift rings for pennies on the dollar...

They are brushed stainless so they match the rest of the rig perfectly, love that.

I was thinking that these would be a bunch easier to install too. I was wrong on that. Check it out...
P1090543.jpg

I did a dry run first on a piece of scrap ply. Basically I have to drill out a 1.5" hole, then a .5" hole, then I have to chisel out for the hinge section...
P1090542.jpg

Not too bad, just takes several steps is all.

Here's what they look like sitting in place...

I'll hit the pocket with 5200 and get some ss screws to secure it. I think these should match the character of the boat nicely.

They take a while so I only got 2 of 7 done this morning. I should get the rest carved out tomorrow morning.

Cheers doods!:D

That all white on the boat might benefit from something to break it up a little kinda likea a pinstrip on a solid car... or like the Motor you did.

You know what might be cool? A black pin stripe along the bottom edge or at the top just below the gunwale:cool:

Bah, I have other fish to fry at the moment:)

Yah GA, that may very well be a RG duck tape foul huh?!

------------------------------------------------------------

So this morning I decided to chop those pedistals one more time...
P1090545.jpg

I really didn't want to make a big mess of alum dust in my boat but I've been still getting blasted in the face with wind. So, I took another two inches off, they will go no lower!

Here they are in "Ski" mode, really comfortable:)

It seems like it took me forever to get these ring pulls installed but here they are...

Thanks Glen! Yah, I was a little nervous chopping another chunk off but I was just out chillin in em and I think they are much better than before:)

Yah, big improvement my temporary duck tape tabs I was using:D

I didn't bother sinking them all the way through the face plate, maybe about a 1/16" there. They'll sit below my snap in carpet too so nice either way.

Add: I didn't mention it before but you can see a notch I took out of the upper right hand side of my anchor hatch cover. That way I can have the anchor line coils in the box, anchor out, and hatch closed eh.

Oh, I thought you'd busted the forward right hand corner off the hatch! :p

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Hey, a.m. work session!

I eBayed these sweet SS cup holders on the cheap...
P1090551.jpg

They are really nice, neoprene on the bottom and a double stick foam gasket for install. On the bottom there is actually a drain fitting that a hose could hook to. Something like that would be great for fiberglass boats that aren't allowed to get wet!

So I drilled out 3 monster holes in my port side console...
P1090550.jpg

Man what a huge mess, rats! Well, since I had to lay on my back and drill from under neath 1/2 of that alum shaving garbage fell on my face, so that was good. I think.
P1090549.jpg

Oh well, that's what shop vacs and showers are for I guess.

Installed!
P1090552.jpg

Then I added a pair on either side of the fish box too...
P1090554.jpg

I peeled the foam off and went with 5200 to install those. By the way, no flash on that photo ^^^, man do I love those interior gunwale LED lights!

These holders will be great for holden KoolAid, chapstick, tackle, sunscreen and the like!

Cheers guys!:D

Brutha,

What a fantastic boat... WOW! Love the stainless holders! I thought you may lower those seats after seeing pics of half you torso in the wind! :D

Are your hatches latched somehow? If not do the bounce while underway?

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Thanks for swinging through bear!

On my hatch covers, nope, no latch on those lifting rings. I was watching my hatch covers on my last outing and I think I only noticed one of them bouncing just a little. Stuff like that bugs me so I'll keep an eye on em and if need be I'll install some sort of catch or something, ya know.

Rock on:D

I wanted plenty of KoolAid carrying options just in case a glasser guy comes aboard!:D

Nah man, you have kids, you know how it is, they come with stuff buddy! And snacks, and legos, and whatever else. Shoot my bride has all sort of stuff too!;)
