Absolutely! Fasteners can be replaced with stainless wood screws and machine screws. A few more pictures of the transom cap would help determine the best way to get the old wood out.

Here's a pic showing corner cap and also just above the wood transom is a strip of 90 degree angle aluminum which is riveted on running full width of the wood which is 8" x 48" transome with corner cap.JPG

Ok.....old wood is out....that was easy since it came out in a million pieces...........is the consensus that a new 8x48x1 1/8 will fit in without removing the angle aluminum piece ???old wood out.JPG

I think 1st of all those corner caps are going to have to come off. Next I can't tell how that angle piece is attached that goes along the transom. If it's riveted remove it. That can be put back into place with stainless machine screws from the outside.

That riveted strip is high enough that I wouldn't even be afraid to pop rivet it back in place and seal the heads with some 5200.

If you already have an air compressor you can piece meal a rivet kit together for roughly $50 (w/o shipping) - air hammer, rivet set, bucking bar of your choice

By the time you get shipping on all of the above, it may be just as cheap to get it all from amazon though check out the frequently bought together - here

I will say that after a few trial rivets in some scrap I found one of these nice for my air hammer just to give it a bit better adjustability
