As I am at work and can't get to the motor for A while I thought I would do some quick brainstorming.
Last Night I took the boat out and could not get the motor to start. It had sat for about 1 month since the last outing. I brought 2 tanks and 2 fuel lines, 1 tank with brand new fuel mix.
The only thing I did with the motor since the last outing was to try to clean out the WD-40 that was all over it. The previous owner sprayed the electrical connections with WD-40 to prevent corrosion. To clean I sponged up what I could with paper towel and then hit the motor with compressed air and wiped up again with towels.
Considering the motor didn't ever even pretend it wanted to start I think I have a no spark condition (will have to verify tonight).
There is no kill switch on this motor and it is a tiller with only a rope start.
I have all basic tools for outboard repair (compression gauge, spark gap checker, feeler gauges, etc). If it's a fuel problem I think I can sort it out easily, but if it's spark I might need a little help as I am only experienced with older points based systems and this looks like a solid state ignition.
I'll update some time in the next couple of days when I get a chance to get at the motor. Until then any advice of where to start couldn't hurt.
