All of a sudden during a test run in the driveway to check for overheating, the engine abruptly quit running after turning it off and restarting it several times.
I checked and found no spark at any of the cylinders.
The main fuse, power packs and stator check out OK.
My question is about the key switch.
Should the resistance measured from black/yellow wire coming from the ignition switch be open, (infinite resistance), to ground when the ignition switch is in the on/run position. I am reading about 2200 ohms between the black/yellow wire coming from the "stator" and ground, when the switch is in the run position.
Notes:
Both power packs four prong connectors are disconnected and the main battery switch is off.
The boat does not have a kill switch.

Thanks in advance.
Tom.

Tom, unplug the large cannon plug, probably red, and then jump the starter solenoid from the large terminal of battery cable side to the small terminal with the starter wire. If you have spark then the problem is in the wiring harness forward of the cannon plug and The starter switch would be I'd start looking.

Thanks for the reply.
I had already suspected the ingnition switch when it started pouring rain the night before. I checked the reading again and it had changed to 2500 ohms. I removed the black/yellow wire from the ignition swicth and measured across the "m" terninal, where the wire came from, and ground. The reading was 2500 ohms. I opened the switch to find it full of corrosion and something that looked like it was alive at one time or another!

To answer my own question, the resistance between the black/yellow wire from the stator and ground should be open (infinite resistance), with the ignition switch in the run position and both power packs disconnected.

Thanks Again.
