Re: 1983 Mercury 25 HP
OK!OK!OK!OK!
I had my neighbor who is totally unmechanically
inclined come over and take a look. He's a young
kid in his 30s, with pretty good eyesight. I
didn't have my seeing eye dog, that's how this
simple operation turned into brain surgery. For
the next guy, here it is: Even though the manual
tells you to disconnect the linkage and work
on the pawl that shifts @ the shaft and you re-
move the screw under the carburator, you will
still be unable to release the linkage. The
starter which is on the opposite side must be
removed, 2 bolts, Now the shaft that rotates
when you move the pawl on the other side is
exposed. Remove cir-clip remove retaining clip
and EUREKA! That pesky linkage is now loose,
remove the last bolt holding the bottom unit,
and try to hunt down OEM# 47-85089Q4, this
# supersedes:47-85089T7. Thank you lots for
the help, ellombris.
