Re: 1983 Sea Ray Seville...to restore or not to restore?

The bigger issue is the OMC Stringer drive system which has not been built since 1985, and there are no factory support...some parts are available but if the drive needs to be redone you will have to search around for someone who still works on these....These things are hard to seal from what I hear and are prone to certain problems but if you search around you may find a place that does work on them....

I have a later model Cobra and it's a lot more similar to the Merc Alpha system but still some parts are hard to get and many mechanics will not work on them...I am lucky and have a good shop that does good work on Cobras...I don't know if they work on Stringers though....

Please do tell....... Yes the engine would have to be fuel injected of course, vice carb but other than that the engine is generally the same.

Ayuh,... The Major problem with that is Neither the Induction, Nor the Igntion systems on those will interface with the OMC wiring system...

You can't run a 'puter motor in a non-'putered boat...

Sorry. I really didn't want to be rude. I've just been on here long enough to see that idea floated before and the I/O guys shoot it down for a number of reasons. Unfortunately I was short on facts. As a 3 time Regal owner, I LOVE 3800's and would love to have one in a boat. However I knew it wasn't feasible, particularly the supercharger part. There is a thread in the I/O forum by a member in Australia who IS adapting a 3800 to a boat and he's doing a great job but it's taking some serious fabrication.

EZ, no blood no foul. ;) Always willing to learn. I hadn't checked in the I/O forum. Was just an Idea I've had for a while. Thanks for the info.
