Re: 1984 85hp tilt and trim
It slide right in between the mounting clamps. HOWEVER there is a possibility that the clamps are slightly closer than the widt of the trim cylinderand mount. If that is the case, you will need to loosen or remove the lower bolts and spread the clamps a bit--I'm talking 1/16 inch or less.
Everything bolts right up. A slight difficulty will be the shrouded bolt in the reservoir/motor mount. It helps to have a bent distributor wrench. Not a difficult job but allow a couple of hours or so.
A word to the wise: Liberally coat the mounting holes and shafts with anti-seize. That includes the upper bar that goes through the yoke and the plastic bushings in the bottom of the cylinders.
You will need to support the engine in the tilted position the mount the tilt cylinder and shockabsorber on the yoke.
I do not pay attention to exact systems but if you have a two wire system, you will need to mount relays. A three wire system will work directly off the battery but you CAN also use relays with minor modifications.
If it is a two wire system and did not come with relays and associated wiring, you are not stuck and do not need to lay out big bucks. The relays and sockets can be found in junkyards in lots of Chevys, Buicks, and Fords.
