I am trying to remove the top pin from the tilt piston in order to access the screws holding the motor for the power trim. The casing on the motor has corroded and the motor has to be replaced. I removed the wire clips on each end of the top pin on the tilt piston, tried driving the pin out, but it seems to be frozen. Worked on it for about two hours and it will not move. It is soaking with liquid wrench at present. I guess my question this: Is there anything else holding the pin? Any advice on what I can do to remove the pin. Any better way to access the motor? My gut feeling is that the pin is being held by corrosion.
Any help will be appreciated.

I've always had to raise the motor all the way up and block it. Then get a Mapp Gas torch, a BFH and a brass drift and drive the pin out while heating the area around it. Only wire clips holding it.

Thanks Boobie,
I was worried about heating the pin. Wasn't sure if there was any plastic or nylon bushing inside. The parts blow ups don"t do a good job on that top pin.
Will let you know what the outcome is.

Hey Boobie, Does it make any difference which side I drive from?.. It is easier for me to hit from the starboard side being right hander.
Thanks

Corrosion product build up over time and can really jam up the pin.------Does not matter which side you hit from.------If there is room it helps to drill a hole through the pin.---------Remember when you really hit that pin it may " mushroom " the end and then it will be even harder to drive it out.

That's why you use the brass drift so you don't mushroom the pin.

Thanks boobie and rcerone for all of your help. The pin is out.
Here is what I did. This is after 2 days of heating, cooling and beating. I Drilled a small hole in the center on each end of the pin. Used a 1/2" iron punch sharpened on the end to fit the small holes. Heated the aluminum around the pin again. One guy on one side striking the pin and one guy on the other side taking turns. The pin moved about 1/8" after a few hits at first, then more and more for about five minutes then launched out one side. I was thrilled, but my jubilation was short lived. The SS screws holding the rest of the power trim tilt unit are frozen in the aluminum housings. Got one out and broke two others before I quit. I am going to start another topic on how to drill out SS bolts or any other suggestions how to remove the unit.
