I bought a 1984 Mariner center console a few months ago.

The motor was shot so I re-powered with a 2004 90 hp Johnson that a friend took off a pontoon boat.

Its going to need a new floor soon there are a couple soft spots.

My plan is to use it thru the winter and spring (stripers mostly) to get an idea what I want, and then do a rebuild.

I'll get some pictures posted as soon as figure out how to do that.

I'm installing a sonar this weekend and plan to hit Hartwell next week.

I'm trying to get some ideas for the rebuild, any suggestions/tips.

Welcome to the restoration center of Iboats. Check at the top of section, there are a bunch of restorations taking place you can check out. There are also brochures for your reference "stickied" at top of the Starcraft forum.

Re: 1984 Mariner

Thanks Bwana Don for the nice comments.

I discovered a problem today installing the sonar. It looks like somebody installed new decking on top of the old.
Found some pretty serious rotten wood right at the transom, but luckily it looks like the transom is still in good shape.
Looks like I might need to do the floor replacement sooner than later.
Heard you guys liked pictures so here are a few.

Welcome to the forum scstar. Great hull you've got there and that newer Johnson is sweet. Your rot issues are certainly nothing out of the ordinary and can be easily dealt with. You probably have poured foam under there though that will need to be tackled.

Thanks ezmobee

My buddy repowered his pontoon with a 4 cycle cause his wife didn't like the 2 cycle smell.
Motor is barely broken in has about 60 hours on it.
Need to get the boat to match the motor now.

Re: 1984 Mariner

Welcome to the Starmada, scstar. Not a bad looking Mariner. The guys here will help you out if you need help. Almost everyone has done decks and transoms.

Are you from GA or SC, based on the fishing Hartwell next week? We're building up a pretty good sized S.E US Starcraft flotilla. Glad to have another one down here.

Thanks for the nice comments
I am really excited about getting it in the water.
GaBoater - I guess I should update my profile - currently in SC, but my folks live on the lake in Hartwell, GA.
Stripers have been schooling pretty good for the last few weeks since the lake turned over. Hopefully the weather won't get too cold too soon.
I posted more pictures of the splashwell for zigzag.
I really like the small well - makes it bigger on the inside.

scstar - Great looking Mariner, That thing should fly with a 90 on it. We have a 21' Mariner with a 90 and it does 39mph.

I saw 3 of the 18' while on vacation last summer. Nice all purpose boat.

I like your Captains chair, How tall is it to the seat. I picked up one like it used and I'm hoping Santa gets me some marine vinyl for C-mas. Mine is 18 at the seat and was thinking of raising it up to make it more of a leaning seat, maybe 25" or even a little higher.

Nice to see another Mariner here and good luck on the refit when you get to it.

Re: 1984 Mariner

I call shenanigans ;)

No your boots aren't getting dirty.:D I have 2 fishfinders and a hand held Lowerance GPS, they all read between 38.5 & 39.5. My son and I and a half tank of gas, smooth water. We have done it three different times.

Edit added link for realism, on this day I had 2 kids on board.

Hi 65osby

I love the Mariners, my Dad had one when I was a kid, and I think that's where the Starcraft bug comes from.

The seat is 13" to the top of the metal box, and 16.5" to the top of the cushion.

I never checked the speed, but it seems like it's in the mid to high 30's at full throttle.
Just put a GPS on it so I will check it next time I go out.
