Re: 1984 Silverton 34C Remodel/Update/Upgrade PIC HEAVY
Had a few hours down at the boat today. It consisted of round two on the gel coat, and pro polish on the green portion of the hull sides.
Mixed it up light, and saved half of the color in case I want to redo it again. With it under the plastic, it looked light.
Now here is the strange part. After removing the plastic, it was darker. Now pay attention to the gel coat around the light area, as that is the color it needs to be buffed back to. I think it's fairly close. We will see with the sanding and polishing how it looks.
Another quick update from last time. Got the under water gear clear coated and back in place. Some 4200 and hopefully they are leak free and function.
Then it was polish time on the green. This is my father taking the residue off from my polishing. This system works well. The DA puts the PP on and polishes. The wool pad on the buffer takes it off and leaves it nice and clean.
Also went at the black rubber area below the hull/deck joint. It was basically white. A little acetone and it looks presentable. Not perfect, but better.
Also, on the BM/PP thread, we checked with a tape measure. On the green, 16" away is crystal clearn, the 36" mark can be seen and read, but the actual real downfall, is the fiberglass matt texture can be seen in the hull and it makes reflections look a bit off. In the end I think the hull came up well. A boat near ours was done by hired pros, and unless the guy spent very little, it's nothing like the final product we have. Granted we have a few days and hours into it.
