Hello,
I have a 1984 Bayliner Capri w/Volvo AQ125A engine with a stock setup. Just got it back from the shop for a check up and everything checks ok (Starts right up with no problem at the dock which is unusual). I usually have to start it a few times and allow it time to warm up. The engine in or out of drive idles fine. As I increase the amount of throttle when in drive, runs fine until I pass 1/3 max throttle. Not enough to get up on plane. The engine starts to die out. I called The Shop and they told me that they checked the fuel and it was fine while it was there for the check up. Noticed smoke from the carb when the engine died out. I don't smell gasoline. If I back off the throttle the engine will return to normal (won't cut off). If I try to increase the throttle quickly to %75 or more all at once to get up on plane the engine raises in response for a few seconds before it tries to cut out again. The carb was cleaned 3 seasons ago and a fuel water separator was added. I did notice that the year before the engine would attempt to bog down for a split second... I plan on replacing the fuel water separator first. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated!
