IMG_20121030_184958 - Copy.jpgIMG_20121030_185010.jpgHere are a couple more I took earlier in the week. I have gotten some more vinyl and carpet done, batteries installed and best of all, the motor fired right up!!! Ok, almost right up, but the delay was my fault. we had to disconnect the fuel line from the filter and the return line when we pulles the motor. At some point someone, probably me, just slipped them back onto the fuel pump.....in the wrong spots...... Once I figured that out she fired right up with a little priming. It is oh so close!!!!!!!

Re: 1985 21 ft Starcraft Slow Project

Everything went pretty well. Definately gets up to plane a lot faster and handles extremely smooth and snappy. I figure I shet close to 800lbs if not more out of her. Before I couldn't lift the toung of the trailer, now I think the Admiral could if she tried real hard!! GPS topped out at 33mph but I was RPM limited. I still had quite a bit of throttle left but don't want to push over 4500 rpm. Time for a new prop!!! It currently has a 3 blade aluminum 14 deg. I have a 4 blade composite 15 deg that didn't work to well before that I am going to try, but I am hoping it will turn a 16 or 17 deg aluminum at 4500 rpm. Then she will really fly!!! Not bad for an old 140. The only issue is the shaft alignment. Everything checked good on the trailer, no noise or vibration with full left/right articulation but as we were pulling up to the dock there was a lot of rattle in that area at full turns. Due to lack of time I am probably going to have to suck it up and drop it off at the mech. and pay him to fix it. I just hope it doesn't cost too much or the Admiral will hve me walkin' the PLANK!!!

Great Job, looks real good on the water. Check out ebay for an alignment bar Heatland industries I believe no expensive and will save you mony in the long run. The mercruiser forum has some real good instructions on aligning.

I will definately look into it but due to lack of time before the move, my mechanic said he would do it for an hours worth of labor, about $90. He also said he would show me how to do it and just loan me his bar.

Looks great tigger! Congrats on the splash.

X2 on what Glen said. That alignment bar wasn't to expensive. Certainly less than an hour labor from a marine mechanic. If you're moving to TX, come by and just borrow mine :)

Thanks to everyone for all the tips and tricks. It definately made it a lot easier. What are your thoughts on a prop? It is currently a 15" x 14? 3 blade aluminum. That was the max prop I could spin at 4500 rpm. I'm not sure if I could turn a full 19? but I don't want to under prop it either. Thoughts?

I don't think you should have any propblems with a 19p. On my 18SS with a mercruiser 120 I run a 14 3/4 x 19 for tubing and pulling hard, and a 15 3/10 x 21p for cruising, smaller boat though.

I'm dumb as rocks when it comes to props. Especially, just to try one at what those things cost.

These guys over here know what they're talking about: Prop Questions and Topics

Re: 1985 21 ft Starcraft Slow Project

Quick update, I am in Dallas and the boat is still in Tampa. Got my uncle over to start it, first time since December, he said it wouldn't idle below 3000rpm. Sounds like some carb work when I finally get my hands on it.

yup, sounds you got an idle circuit cleaning ahead of you. recommend you escape Dallas at once before your hair grows into a bouffant and you want to bolt steer horns on your boat
