Re: 1985 Bayliner 2450 Ciera Sunbridge Restoration underway!

Unfortunatly, I haven't done a thing. New floor in living room, repainting daughters bedroom, and various other activities have distracted me. I have however gone out to the boat to enjoy a beer a time or two.:) Hoping to get back at it soon!

Ya'll have a Merry Christmas!

Re: 1985 Bayliner 2450 Ciera Sunbridge Restoration underway!

I actually have the cockpit area "L" seating ripped out! It is now just a bench seat. I really love have the whole cockpit area opened up, its takes away some seating but I'm much happier with it this way. That L seat really pinched you between the helm seat when trying to get through. I have the helm seat, 2-3 can fit on the bench seat depending on size, and the stern seat fits two comfortably although I don't like people there when going faster than an idle. I just picture them flying right out the back!!! lol

I like the white laminate, mine has a brownish spotty type laminate and the upholtery is blue. But your cabin set up is nearly identical to mine.
What are you repowering her with?

Re: 1985 Bayliner 2450 Ciera Sunbridge Restoration underway!

gotcha,
i remember about your L.
space,,,, bet its nice to not bump on by.lol
put a railing back there with a seatback on the stern and you'll have no worries
you don't gotta go so tall either, just enough to keep em in.

ya see, for me, its them dang cushions, there in great condition.
man if i can get the upholsterer thats puttin zippers and eising glass on my campertop to cut and finish the L seatback to allow for flipflop
i would be in:D,,, hackin and a wackin.

i'm not sure how yours is but why in the hay would they put the battery switch in the engine compartment.
i am also moving the battery switch to my port side gunwhale next to my shorepower under a deckplate for easy acsess
that way i can do somethin a little more permanent for the rear seating as well.

my merc 5.7 ate it,,, newly remanned,,, not
i had her remanned correctly, bored 20 over mostly new guts, by my in house preferred shop. sweet.

as far as the cabin goes the admiral is way happy down there lots of room
only thing i'd change is a wider table maybe oval so we can sit back and eat over the table down there without leanin forward
i've seen some pretty kick but tables on here lately that are makin me a lil jelly. lol
post up some pics of your cabin,, i might be able to give ya some ideas.

anyway i am glad to see ya back

Re: 1985 Bayliner 2450 Ciera Sunbridge Restoration underway!

my table is so big it's hard to get into the seat! I'd gladly go for the smaller one....or maybe somewhere inbetween. My table is basically cut in the wedge shape and drops down in the middle to form a large bed with the seats on either side. I usually don't even use the table, i just put it in place for the bed. I'll try to get a pic of it. Basically right along the front side of the "bench seats" is a slat that supports the table on either side. The back cushions then fit nicely on the table and you have a large bed.
I'm pondering a television going right where the mirror is on yours at the bow. Mine has an anchor rode locker(thats what i'm gonna use it for when i get a windlass) behind the mirror.

Heres a pic i have of the cabin, i'll get one of the table in there.....amazing how similar these boats are!

Re: 1985 Bayliner 2450 Ciera Sunbridge Restoration underway!

Sooo happy to find this thread. I have just come into possession of my first boat - ever. And it happens to be a Ciera 2450... which of course needs work all the way down to the axles on the trailer. I see you guys as being a very likely asset as this thing moves forward. Won't see quite the progress as Ciera2450, as I'm also smack in the middle of remodeling a house. PS - this thread has provided a bit of encouragement - I was considering moving on to a more "ready to sail" boat.

I haven't had a chance to even try to crank the engine on the bay, puller her home on half of the axles on the trailer last evening... Will get a battery or 3 for her this weekend and see what I've got. Any recommendations on battery sizing? She's got the 5.7 and is right now set-up on a single battery.

Thanks in advance!

PS. too bad I wasn't reading this 6 months ago - to answer your hull to cap gap caulk dilemma - I would have gone with a closed cell backer rod (kinda like the noodles that kids swim with, but available all the way down to 1/8" to provide a "stopping point" for caulk, and then I would have followed up with urethane caulk. It sticks to anything and everything and as the same level of durability as the fiberglass itself, with the benefit of really staying flexible, so it won't tear out or pull "loose" from vibration or shock... It's a great product once you get used to using it - you can't work it with your fingers - like I said, it sticks to anything and everything, maybe even motor oil

PPS - I don't know anything about this boat other than the 5.7 and that it is 24 feet and change long.

PPPS: if I've embarrassed myself already with the caulk subject, flame on - 4200 or 5200 may be urethanes for all I know - like I said "Brand New" to the boating world, but when it comes to repair/restore I don't care what it is, I'm game...

^^^^^^^^^^^ looks like we got ourselfs a pair of bal,,,,,inkers :Dlol
yep same anchor locker looks like the only difference is your front triangle is raised.
too close indeed. do you got that short little hangin closet next to the head? bottom of pic
trautmann12034.jpg

the plan is to mount the tv right above it near the :eek:screwholes on one of dem walleyworld swivel mounts (hopefully i'll be able to swing it around so i can see it while fallen asleep in the aft cabin)

not too sure cause i didn't try it out yet but i believe that my table just stows and there is 2 hard backed cushions that snap into the same rail you have, just under the benches. i'll look at it tomorrow.

Re: 1985 Bayliner 2450 Ciera Sunbridge Restoration underway!

I'm going to have plenty of questions... buggy - your rinker looks a whole, whole, whole lot like my Bay - Cierra, yours is a twin to mine... an idea for your hand rail issue, what I plan for mine (still have all three pieces, but the wood has seen better days) is to bondo and sand the wood, paint to match the hull, and run a navy stripe maybe an inch wide (flanked by hairline red stripe) along the length on top, and then clear coat the devil out of them. If you don't mind the white, then any wood would work and you can pick any profile/width/accessories (like say an integrated cup holder). Other wise, you can take the ole resin to a piece of red oak; should give you at least 3 or 4 years of service before and rehab is needed - depending on your resin - tint the resin slightly with a dark redish brown and it looks darned near teak. (new to boating, not new to marine environment "projects")

I will start a new thread once I get "up and running" sorry Ciera for the hijack of your thread... It'll be few weeks before any "work" starts on the bay, I'll post the before pictures soon (once I get them)... Who knows maybe in a few months I'll challenge Ciera to a race - speed demon that my bay is, maybe on lake lanier, that wouldn't be too far to drag the boat - once I work out my trailer dilemma...

Re: 1985 Bayliner 2450 Ciera Sunbridge Restoration underway!

Welcome to Iboats wilhale! You will love your boat...
Lil buggy, I was actually just out cutting down the stern rail about 6inches. It looks wayyyyyyy better and you can move around on the swim platform without it being in the way. I just have the SS railing for now, I'm shopping around for some teak to fashion a hand rail along the top. I had the stern rail about 20" high and lowered it to 14". I like the look much better! thanks for the tip! I didn't get pics but I shall. I don't have the side rails, but I like them not there. Everyone usually boards right were those rails would be and the kids like jumping out. I really don't mind the side rails missing. I'd even go without the stern rail if people wouldn't fly out without one! :)

I got the boat fired up today (fired right up!) and de-winterized. Gonna change out the oil tomorrow in engine and drive. I also re-installed the freshwater tank and pump and tested it out. Works great! the wife will love having the sinks back for washing dishes etc...

Btw, wilhale I had to go thru my trailer also. All new bearings, bunks, wiring, lights, winch, etc, etc......I may be able to help ya out if you have any problems... Also, great tip on the stern gap I had! Where were ya a couple months ago!! lol
Lil buggy, I got some pics of the cockpit area and bench seat...i'm gonna redo it cause i'm not happy with it..lol Upholstery work sucks!
Couple pics of topside, the bench has a cushion that is stowed away but I basically just made a triangle and covered it in foam and vinyl. A couple cupholders across the top for cold beer....
The other pic is my "lil boat", just put her up for sale on craigslist today! She is older than I am..... I'll miss her.

Didn't want ya'll to think I kept my boat that dirty! lol
