wilhale, for your batteries....I'd get the largest marine deep cycle's you can get. How many depends on what your gonna power, but you'll want at least two on a MBSS (battery selector switch). I have 3 batteries, two that I run on most of the time and the other in reserve. The two batteries I run most of the time will power my lights, computer, fan, phone chargers, etc for at least 4 days out at the lake.(longest i've stayed)
Mind you, I am cruising around some to charge them a lil bit.... I'm actually quite impressed, I am always worried I'm draining them too far but I've never had to switch to the reserve. EVER. I'll take a look at what size i've got, i don't recall.

shish,
you gotta be quiet, the admiral will want a puter on my rig:facepalm: i can see it now,,, you got the fish pinger,,, why cant i have the laptop,, lol

Oh and lil buggy, I DO have the lil' closet deal to hang up clothes. These boats are so darn similar....
weird,,, bal,,,inker lol

Lil buggy, I was actually just out cutting down the stern rail about 6inches. It looks wayyyyyyy better and you can move around on the swim platform without it being in the way. I just have the SS railing for now, I'm shopping around for some teak to fashion a hand rail along the top. I had the stern rail about 20" high and lowered it to 14". I like the look much better! thanks for the tip! I didn't get pics but I shall. I don't have the side rails, but I like them not there. Everyone usually boards right were those rails would be and the kids like jumping out. I really don't mind the side rails missing. I'd even go without the stern rail if people wouldn't fly out without one! :)
^^^ agreed lowering will be the bbest of both worlds, i could see removing the side rails as well.
you might want ta check into mahogany or other hardwoods for the sternrail 3 fittings and a block of wood,,, lol

I got the boat fired up today (fired right up!) and de-winterized. Gonna change out the oil tomorrow in engine and drive. I also re-installed the freshwater tank and pump and tested it out. Works great! the wife will love having the sinks back for washing dishes etc...
Lil buggy, I got some pics of the cockpit area and bench seat...i'm gonna redo it cause i'm not happy with it..lol Upholstery work sucks!
Couple pics of topside, the bench has a cushion that is stowed away but I basically just made a triangle and covered it in foam and vinyl. A couple cupholders across the top for cold beer....
i am soooo jealouse,,, dewinterizing,,, ready to goooo,,,that cupholder spot would make a cool bar/sink area,, just thinken here
The other pic is my "lil boat", just put her up for sale on craigslist today! She is older than I am..... I'll miss her.

I got pics of the shortened stern railing....

shortenedsternrail2.jpgshortenedsternrail1.jpg

Also, as I was buttoning up all the connections to the water pump and testing everything out, I discovered that the pump leaks from the housing. I don't know if these things are repairable or if I should just get a new one...They are quite expensive!!!
heres a pic of the old pump I have now...
waterpumpleaking.jpg

I spent the evening moaning and groaning about the water pump while the wife and I cleaned up the cabin and finished up some wiring in the engine bay. When I bought the boat there were wires running everywhere in the engine bay....It drove me crazy and wasn't very safe. I have been slowly going thru all the connections and wire runs and straightening everything out. I bet I've spent several hundred bucks just on shrink tubing and wire connectors. But, it looks much better and I know all the connections are safe and secure.
I hope everyone had a good day:rolleyes:

like it, however imo if you get 3 fittings like the ones that attach to the lower end and put em upside down you can put a block of wood across to finish it all up back there then you can mount them rod holders on the flat. maybe even add a back cushion to lean on,
your other cushions turned out great:D
ideas is all
browsing around for a water pump.....any problems with an RV unit???? I don't see a difference except the price is wayyyyyyyy better!
http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/flojet-quiet-quad-ii-water-pump/9372

darn if that dont look like the one i got, and by the way its pretty quiet too. go for it, sounds like a good solution.
if you can wait i'll get to the boat in a few days and check mine out and shoot a pic/ n read the label:eek::D
but it looks right to me.
wireing, shish it's funny how you can look at it and say(what were they thinkin)lol
your picken up headway,,, good job!

Hi guys! Picked up the water pump at camping world today. It even says on the label "marine ignition protected". I'm sure it'll work perfectly. The best things was.......on sale for $59!!!! I was very pleased. Hopefully get it installed this evening if the rain stays away.
Thanks guys for the encouragement!

I do plan on fashioning a wooden top rail for the stern railing. i just haven't decided what to use just yet tho...

JBF, waiting till May would kill us down here in the south! Most already have their boats in. You can really go out almost year round here. I plan to be out this weekend hopefully. Thunderstorms are forcasted but we shall see.

Re: 1985 Bayliner 2450 Ciera Sunbridge Restoration underway!

The rain kept me inside for most of the evening so I didn't get the new Water pump installed. I did however discover that I have a connection issue to the plumbing in the boat. The pump has a 1/2" Qest (??) male fitting and the old plumbing is more like a female compression fitting(a metal colar on the line with a rubber gasket and the nut slides over them). I need some kind of adapter to link these together.

Ya think lowes or ace hardware will have this kind of stuff?
.....$59 for a 2.9gpm pump with 50psi!!!!!!! I'm still in shock over the price.... but i'm worried the adapters for the lines will ruin my "sweet deal", some of that plumbing stuff is darn expensive!
I'm imagining a female to male connector that mates with each end...if thats possible. I'd hate to have a huge string of fittings to make the connection.
Anybody know where to find what I need to join these?

you got enough room back there for this

lmao
you could always use hoseclamps:facepalm:

59 cheeseburgers shish did you at least thank him,,,,:D lol good score.
as far as all the fittings go, take the pump and a piece of the hose size you need to get it to(old fitting will just confuse them, take it in case but leave it in the truck) to a loacal plumbing supply store, you should be ok
even if they gotta tap the old fitting out i bet you wont have a mess of adapters.
does the pump shut off when it reaches 50 psi? if it does you are in business:D again great find.

as far as the stern rail goes, try cherry or mahogany, and coat the daylights out of it,, it should be fine

I got the new water pump installed today. Works great! A bit frustrating working in such a tight area, but I got er' done. I went ahead and replaced the switch for the pump located in the galley. I had switches laying around and the one in there was likely 20years old. I'm very pleased with the new water pump, much quieter than previous and smoother operation.

I have a tiny drip leak from the galley faucet. (on the side thats supposed to be for hot???I have no hot water heater. but thats where she's leaking from. I haven't torn apart the faucet yet to see what's goin on....maybe tomorrow while I'M AT THE LAKE!!! :)

Pics of the pump installed (fittings only cost me about $20, I even replaced the supply line from the tank.
waterpumplabel.jpgwaterpumpinstalled2.jpgwaterpumpinstalled1.jpg

I also was able to con my boy and his buddy to wash the boat....for $4!!! lol they didn't do the greatest job and I did most of the work but it was fun soaking them with the hose.

The butt crack boy is mine :)

This is the "super spacious" area where the water line fittings are located. The supply tank doesn't leave much room and it had to be in place to attach everything together properly. I got a bit frustrated trying to reach in there but I got it done without breaking anything. lol

Re: 1985 Bayliner 2450 Ciera Sunbridge Restoration underway!

I think I'm going to finish the head floors and walls with frp....(the sheet stuff from lowes or homedepot)
the boat orginally had some type of rubbery wallpaper garbage that was peeling off everywhere. I've got it all stripped out and am ready to finish it out with something. A guy suggested the frp stuff and I think its a great idea. I'll have to make some templates out of cardboard or something to get the exact shape for each piece. I'm concerned about how to finish out the corners and edges. I'll try to get some pics of the area to be finished. I think the frp stuff will look good and clean super easy
:)
I've never worked with the stuff, anyone done it or have some tips?

now that is tight, i woulda broke something for sure.
i bet the hot to cold fitting is in a place like that

sounds good, templates are the way to go. that stuff is easy to cut with a jigsaw and grinder. no worries about bringen it back thru the boat because it bends easily. if you use a wider trim and use like 5200 it should hold up well.
do you got a shower in there?

other thought is if you have the exsisting walls, use the frp on the bottom half,
and on the top you could make the panels or use the older stuff pull each sheet and cover with vinyl and reinstall, cover the trim up there as well with the vinyl . pimpen, pot,lol

post up them pics, and enjoy the water

Re: 1985 Bayliner 2450 Ciera Sunbridge Restoration underway!

I don't have a shower in the head, I have a deck washdown if that counts! lol
Heres some pics of the head (full of junk but you get the idea)
head2.jpghead1.jpg

As you can see, I have been using the head for storage but the admiral is tired of hanging off the stern to pee. :)
So, a porta potty will be put in the head..... instead of my junk.I really liked having a closet on the boat too! lol

The hull wall (the back wall) is still covered with the vinyl junk. Its ugly and I don't like it. I'm leaning toward using the FRP to cover the entire head. Floors AND walls. What do you guys think?
Any other options to consider?

Re: 1985 Bayliner 2450 Ciera Sunbridge Restoration underway!

Btw, I spent saturday night and most of sunday at the lake. It was nice being back on the water! Of course I had problems tho....

Everything going great until I went to load up and head home. The wind was blowing 15mph with some heavy gusts.... First time heading the the dock I had to back up and go again. Second approach was much better and managed to dock the boat. I tied up and went to get the truck while the wife and boy unloaded the boat. I got the boat on the trailer and started cranking the winch down snug......SNAP!!!
The damn strap broke....about the last 8inches of the strap. I must not have had the trailer in the water far enough cause i still had about two inches to get the boat to the bow stop. I ended up just having to tie a knot in the winch strap around the bow eye. I backed the truck down another few inches and cranked the boat up and went home.
I've always prided myself on doing a fairly decent job of loading/unloading, NOT THAT DAY.
On top of the broken strap, I didn't catch ANY fish. Not one.
Oh well, new winch strap is in my future.

Re: 1985 Bayliner 2450 Ciera Sunbridge Restoration underway!

the admiral is tired of hanging off the stern to pee. :)

bahaha,,,lol,,,,,,,,,
but i ahhh thought thats why you didn't want to add the side rails:D

seriously though, why i asked you about the shower in there is if you added more water than just drippings,,,lol the frp and joints would fail, not likely but surely, at some point.
the reason i dont like the frp is all the angles you got in there,(will make for lots of trim pieces) and although it bends it will give way if not securely backed. as well as all the little groves in the frp will attract gunk.

i have some molded plastic one piece thingy throughout my head. so no help there.
but while reading i do have an idea, although maybe a little unconventional i think it may work pretty good. again just an idea.
allbeit good or bad.

both of the ideas would mean backfilling or rounding off all the lower, wall to floor angles with some tigerhair, peanut butter or waterproof compound.

1st thought; gelcoat that sucker! you seem to have it pretty smooth allready, and would make it slick as snot,,lol

2nd thought is; use a roll on white color bedliner kit, or an epoxy, like for garage floors that will paint on and seal the uhh drippings, lol from the rest of the boat.

both of these ideas should be easier clean applications and easy install as well if you dont mind being couped up with all the vapors,,,

and as for the shelf for the sink etc... you could lay down a veneer maybe wood veneer for added accent.

again just spitballing here, i hope it helps some
do you have a floor drain in there?

as far as breaking the strap goes,,,,
congrats on a great trip, no other issues,,, sweet:D.
my cable broke when i was finally draggin it out to get the engine looked at(insult to injury for sure)

it's just dipping below freezing up here tonite and yes i am still jelly that you have a succsessfull trip under your belt allready.
i have a port a pot in mine as well, maybe next year i'll look for something a lil more permenant.
i'll keep my thinken cap on and let you know if i come up with anymore hairbrained scheems:facepalm:
best of luck

Re: 1985 Bayliner 2450 Ciera Sunbridge Restoration underway!

Thanks for all the ideas lil buggy! I kind of like the idea of gelcoat or some other "coating" in there. Would be easier and probably more water resistant than the FRP panels. Btw, I think your right about all the odd angles and seams I would be working around with the Frp stuff.
I"m going to read around online a bit and see what I can come up with. I suppose.. I could always just replace with the crappy vinyl stuff if I have to.
I do have the floor pretty much smooth. I still have some adhesive on the walls to remove but I think a coating of "something" is sounding like a good idea to recover things in there. Thanks for all the help lil buggy!
I don't really need things to be totally "waterproof" as I don't have a shower in there, but I'd like something that cleans up easily and won't mind a few "dribbles" here and there. lol
Anyone else have any ideas for finishing the head floors and walls?
