Re: 1985 renken bowrider project

Hi Drex, I've been out of town on business...so missed your questions..JBCurt will steer you right...

Just saw your video on your grinding..I would say the deck is slanted lower at the rear to aid in water reaching the bilge area...mine was the same way..

I noticed you are using the actual grinding wheel, and not a sanding disk with a soft backup pad....You will have much better control using those...here is what I used...PAD and the DISKS...the object is to just skim the surface to get to fresh glass....deeper if you are getting rid of cracks or delamination..but you have to put back what ever you take out..

for PPE...you really should use at a minimum one of these it creates a seal to keep the small glass particles out of your lungs...

OUCH! that hurt my knee just seeing what you did...have done that myself a time or two, just not across the knee....careful!

Looking good though on the grinding...of the hull that is!

thanks trooper82

i hope that your trip was a great success ........yes jbcurt was on my case and helping to steer me straight he is very knowledgable. he helped me good so far

i was using the flapper wheel with my other grinder but it went bad and also the one that i had in the pic . now i am trying to get a reliable one those were very old ones i had

i will also try to get the other ones the store didnt have them and were out of the suits so i resorted to using a cloth suit ..........should have just used nothing because all that fiberglass came right in

thanks again looking forward to additional guidence as time progress

Probably structural boxes that were filled w/ flotation foam. And the box & foam should probably be put back

looking good so far...don't sweat about the holes you put in while grinding, they can be repaired easily enough....i've seen people do alot worse

Just read through this. Interesting. Couple of comments. Those two boards port and STBD? If nothing was attached to them I suspect they were "pulling blocks" that were used to get the hull out of the mold when first built. The two foam filled boxes? Would help stiffen the chines, but I suspect they were there more as part of the level flotation requirements just like all the other foam sprayed into your hull.

thanks the two box had nothing atached to them they were attached to the sides and were foam filled. With regards to the two at the rear seeing that they would have added in stiffing of the chimes would it be a good idea to turn them into either storage cabinets or live wells that have extra glass to protect the transom once completed

Re: 1985 renken bowrider project

the structure of your boat is everything....if they were there as stiffening elements or even just as flotation....you really should put them back in that way.
