Re: 1986 Century 6 Meter Restoration

I will pick up where I left off and tell the story as I lived it ! All I can say is it was all worth it. I have about 10 hours on the boat and it runs like a champ. I learned a lot from skimming through posts in the airport and following fellow forum members builds.

That thing is sweet

Love the look of those boats wish I hadn't ever sold mine.

looks awesome... im glad it worked out for you.

curious about where you got the seat material and what kid of $ it set you back... I have an 1985 5 meter that i know now (as of a month ago) that the stringers are shot. I was hoping it was just a few soft spots in the floor but, nope. i'm on a lake with very little chop so it hasn't really affected me at all for the few weeks a year that it gets in the water - not to mention the thing loves to go... seriously, it flies.
At any rate I'm going to have to do the whole thing from stringer up and i'm extremely curious if what kind of money and work is involved ($'s and hours) and if you think it's worth it to rip out the floor and everything, then pay someone to do the stringers, and then redo the floor and the interior myself...

bottom line is i love the boat and id love to see it fully restored.

also - what did you use for the floor - from the pics it doesn't look like carpet... and are the captains chairs mounted on a slightly raised platform? sorry, but i literally have a million questions for you... i may have to PM you at some point if you're alright with that so everyone doesn't have to read my ramblings...

Thanks ! When I started the project I had only basic fiberglass skills, I spent many hours reading posts and gathering a game plan. I am sure that most of my work is overkill but I took the Friscoboater approach! LOL

I could have saved many hours if I would have purchased one of those oscillating cutters, I was about 80% done when I stumbled on to that little jem. It will come in handy for trimming fiberglass and in areas where you can't get a grinder.

One thing I can say is the boat was doomed the day it left the showroom. As I cut through the floor , stringers etc I found shotty craftsmanship. My stringers stopped 3/8" shy of the front bulkhead, so when the ski locker took on water it was allowed to enter in front of the stringers saturating the foam. 50% of the floor was bare wood with no glass.

Looking back I now say it was an easy project. I think if I did it again I could do it and half the time, but I guess that's how it always goes.

My boat had sat for 10 years so most of my cost was all the extra's and the fine details. If your boat runs and you just want to do the interior / stringers / mounts it may not be so bad. I will give you some basic $'s on what it set me back. I do live in Canada and some supplies are very expensive. I was paying $100 a sheet for marine grade 3/4" plywood. We also pay 15% tax

Here are the big ticket items
Wood $700 (Made a few mistakes also had to completely build all the interior components prior to upolstry
Fiberglass Resin (4) 5 gallon pails $700
Foam $300
Bonding (Gunk) $150
Interior $2400
CSM and 1708 Cloth $300

I did spill , waste , test so I think I could get by with 10 gallons next time ! lol
